Pete had started his career as a first responder, while Steph was working as an elementary P.E. teacher. Both busy with their schedules, they utilized dating apps to try and meet someone. Both stumbled upon Bumble and gave it a shot. One day their profiles came across one another and both "swiped right" in February of 2021. After texting for a few days they decided to meet for their first date. When asked, "why did you swipe right?" Steph said: "He was super cute." As Pete stated "she was wearing a Mets jersey so i figured she might be cool."

Steph and Pete went on 4 dates before officially becoming a couple. For the 4th date, Pete came out to Wayne, NJ to meet Steph's parents and have dinner with them at local staple Giuseppe's! Sue and Rich approved immediately as did the crew from their favorite restaurant.

Steph met Pete's parents before attending a Mets game, where they shared some banter about the Mets, some laughs, and Pete introduced steph to the greatest bagels in the world!

For 2 and a half years, Steph and Pete enjoyed and shared countless experiences and made memories. They traveled to Cooperstown, Maine, New Hampshire, North Carolina, and Arizona, attended several baseball, hockey, and football games, and enjoyed several new restaurants. They spend time with their families and friends, and are having the best time along the way.

Pete got down on one knee and asked Steph to marry him right on the sand in Diamond Beach, NJ, where Steph's family has their summer home. After asking and receiving Rich's blessing, Pete contacted Steph's friends from home and the shore to plan the imperfectly perfect proposal. After a nice dinner in Cape May, all were headed to the beach bar for a drink to cap off the evening. On the way there, Pete pulled Steph aside and handed her a special container for the 5th time, something he had used in the past to deliver very special gifts. As always steph could not figure out the puzzle and as always Pete was there to assist her. Once opened steph revealed a piece of paper containing a poem inside. As Steph read the poem, she began to realize what was happening. As she looked up Pete dropped to one knee and popped the question. Steph, through tons of happy tears, said yes!

And as they say, the rest is history.
