On July 16, 2020, Hannah and Steve met. It was most definitely a set-up, and friends were not shy about it. As many of you know, when you are just meeting Hannah, she can come off as shy. So trying to start a conversation, Hannah thought it was going to be rough. Luckily, Steve is an extrovert, and started the conversation with ease. Well that night, Steve ended up in the emergency room. Hannah jokes that Steve was so smitten, that he couldn't think straight, let alone see straight! This is why he is missing the tip of his thumb.
After that trip, Hannah went home, never expecting to see or hear from this New Hampshire native, and she was oh so wrong. Not even a week later, a text message popped up on her phone while she was working an overnight shift at the hospital. Steve texted Hannah!
After that initial text, Steve and Hannah were in constant contact, despite the three hour time difference. What started as simple "get to know you questions" lead to deep and meaningful conversations, and definitely some flirting. Soon, Hannah and Steve were calling each other and setting up virtual dates, it is crazy what 3000 miles and a global pandemic will do to one's dating life.
During the time between texts, calls, zoom dates, Hannah was in completing her final year of grad school, working at a local hospital, and participating in her practicum. She was preparing for next stages of life, where she would finally no longer be a student and she would be changing her career from a phlebotomist to a therapist.
After what felt like forever (it was only 8 months), Hannah found herself back in New Hampshire to see if her Mr. New Hampshire was worth it. Spoiler alert, he was!
He drove into Boston on St. Patrick's Day to pick Hannah up from the airport. They were used to texting, video chats, and phone call; yet, in person communication was new. It was not a problem. They were able to talk and communicate easily. However, Steve dropped Hannah off at Andrea's, and then did not see her for two days. They were so close, yet, so far! The night before their first official date, Steve was at Andrea's with several other people, doing a group hangout. Finally, Hannah gave up, and kissed Steve. She did not want to go into the date questioning anything. This is where Steve said his famous line, "Follow me!" And Hannah did, which is why everyone is now attending a wedding.
Hannah returned home, to California, and started applying for MFT Trainee positions. She was sending out resumes like crazy, with no luck. She randomly found a few sites in New Hampshire, and ended up setting up four interviews in one week. She was offered two positions, and she accepted a job offer. With accepting the position she now had to plan a trip for Steve to come out and meet her family, and plan a cross country move.
Steve flew to California in the beginning of July. He met her family (in person) and reported that he was glad to confirm that he did have legs, as he was used to just being a floating head on a computer. Steve fit right in with Hannah's family. The trip felt far too short, yet at this point they had not realized that Steve would be back in California sooner than anyone had anticipated. Steve was only back in New Hampshire a few days when Hannah asked, "If I buy your plane ticket, will you fly back out here, so you drive across the country with me?"
Talk about testing a relationship early on! But man, Steve was such a trooper, and handled Hannah's hangry moments, and emotional mess so well.
On January 28, 2024 Steve popped the question. While there was never a doubt in Hannah's mind that Steve was her person, she was absolutely surprised by the proposal. She said, "Oh my God, Of course!" At this point, Steve likes to constantly tell Hannah, that she never said yes. Hannah jokes that because she knew they were going to get married before she moved, that saying, "Yes" was a given, so her answer was more original.
Wedding planning began, and Steve continues to be an equal partner and reminds Hannah every day, that he is her person. We cannot wait to share the day with you all. We want to celebrate the joining of two amazing families, so have your dancing shoes ready!
