Cade and I met through a mutual friend. At the time, I was playing softball at Jones County Junior College and he was playing baseball at Pearl River Community College. I had jokingly asked one of my teammates, Kat Wallace, if she knew of anyone that she could set me up with. A few weeks had passed and nothing came of it. After those couple of weeks, I was at home for Thanksgiving break, and I got a FaceTime call from her. She told me, “I have a guy and his name is Cade Hodges, and he is from my hometown, Brookhaven!” I immediately went and stalked him on every social media platform I could find him on, and I waited for him to make the first move as she was relaying my information to him. He finally reached out, and within a couple of days of just snap chatting and texting, I knew he was special. After the break, I went with Kat to Brookhaven for a first date with him. I remember that night like it was yesterday. He knocked on the door to get me (that’s when I knew this would go well), opened my car door, and listened to me nervously talk all night long, not letting him get many words out. After our meal, I remember not wanting the night to end. I just knew this was something different than I had ever had. He drove me around to see the Christmas lights (my favorite thing to do around the holidays, which we still do every year together) so we could continue talking and getting to know each other. When the night was over, I called my mom, and as cliche as it sounds, I told her, “I’m going to marry this guy.”.... And here I am, marrying the guy who still meets me at the door, opens my car door, and treats me like the only girl in the world.
