Our Story

Our Story

Picture of Our Story

In 2018 we both took a leap of faith and moved to the Kay County area; he in January and me in July. Neither one of us knew anyone in the area, but this is where God had opened up jobs for us. We both started to attend Life Center in Ponca City and got involved in Bible Study groups - not the same groups unfortunately. We did met briefly through some friends at church in Ponca City, but it was fleeting and I didn't even get his name. We eventually connected on Facebook in October of 2018. Shortly after that I was searching for a Veterinarian for my dog, Eowyn, and he sent me a private message telling me about the clinic he worked at. We ended up swapping messages for a week or so before I was able to take Eowyn in for her check up. She came away with a clean bill of health, and Stetson - as he puts it - "knew there was something about her [me], and I shouldn't let this one go." We continued to talk over Facebook, and then in mid-October switched to text. Our first date was November 9th, and we spent over 12 hours together. We talked, were very very honest with each other, and ended up watching a movie at his place that night. Ask me the rest of that story in person - it's so much better in person :) Our second date was a few weeks later at the American Quarter Horse World Show in Oklahoma City. 18 hours of driving and horses didn't scare me off - but it was a whole new world for me. My family came down for Thanksgiving that year, and the Saturday [November 24] after Thanksgiving he asked my parents permission to officially start dating me. He earned huge brownie points for both my parents and from me! A month later, we went to meet his mom and brother...and then the rest of the family...all at once. Fast forward to March 9, 2019 after a night of swing dancing (yes expect some of this at the wedding) he first told me that he loved me, and I reciprocated. Memorial Day weekend 2019, he asked my dad's permission for my hand at the top of Mt. Hermon in Colorado, and on October 19th he officially asked for my hand. We've been through a lot of ups and downs over the past year (and yes I'm just giving the highlights here) but through it all we've stuck to each other and trusted in God. We know and trust that the next months and years of our life will be lead by God and helped by all those around us. (Side note - while watching the Special Features of Two Towers I realized / remembered that the name Eowyn is a based in Gaelic and means 'For the Joy of Horses.' So 5 years ago I named my new puppy that without knowing who I would end up falling in love with. Very fitting I think.)
