Our Wedding

To know and understand our story best please read this short story that is much needed in understanding our serendipitous meeting. =) In December of 2020 Ashley went to Colorado to visit her best friend Jessie for her 30th birthday. Jessie asked Ashley what she wanted to do while she was there visiting. Ashley has always been (and is still) afraid of heights so she asked Jessie if they could go rock climbing. Ashley had only ever been bouldering indoors at a gym with Jessie once before so this surprised Jessie. (Jessie is Ashley's most adventurous friend.) One day towards the middle of their trip Ashley, Jessie, Emmanuel (Jessie's hubby) and a few other friends woke up early and headed to Red Rock open space for a day of climbing. When they arrived Jessie and Emmanuel set up the top rope so that everyone else could climb. Ashley decided she wanted to go last. It was finally her turn. She geared up and began her ascent up the wall. Ashley found this part very fun and exciting. It was when she got to the top though that things started to fall apart. Jessie said, "Okay, now you have to let go of the wall and make your way down." Ashley did not like this answer at all. They had not practiced lowering closer to the ground like Jessie had suggested after the fact. After an hour of Ashley screaming and crying and cussing her way down the wall she made it back to the ground. After Ashley composed herself Jessie told her about the Top Rope 101 classes that Upper Limits (a climbing gym in St. Louis) offered. She explained how it was a four week class that was led by a skilled professional who could help Ashley get a little more comfortable with climbing. Which surprisingly was something she wanted to do. Jessie also insisted that Ashley take the course at the downtown location because the staff there was simply more superior and skilled than the other locations. (Jessie and her husband Emmanuel used to live in STL and that was the gym they were members of.) Ashley did not live in the city at this point in her life so one of the other locations would have been more convenient for her which is what makes this part of the story so important. As soon as she got home she signed up for a four week class at the Upper Limits downtown location and that is where she met and fell in love with Steve who was the general manager of the gym at that time. Steve checked Ashley into class her very first night!

Where the Adventure Started

Steve and Ashley kept talking after the Upper Limits meeting and found that they had SO much in common. The texts turned into phone conversations and the phone conversations turned into local hangouts and the local hangouts turned into building out a campervan together which has taken them on many week/weekend out of town trips and now here we are! Steve and Ashley are currently living in an apartment in Affton, MO with their pups, Vinny and Sunny. After the wedding fun is over they plan to start their first house hunt!

We LOVE to travel. Even more though, we love National Parks. Our first NP was Hot Springs in Arkansas. Together they have visited 9 and plan to see many more. Steve proposed to Ashley in Shenandoah NP (Virginia is for lovers, baby!) Ashley has been to GTNP and Steve has not. When we started to get serious in our relationship we joked about getting married in the Tetons.. and now here we are!

We are under a contract with our permit from the National Park Service. We are only allowed to have 40 people total at our ceremony. This includes Steve and Ashley, our officiant, our photographer, the wedding party and the rest of the guests invited. PLEASE (we're begging you) only bring the guests addressed on the envelope of your invitation.

Q + A and Important Info

There are literally a million ways to get to GTNP. Some options are more expensive than others. Here, we map out a few different options:

We are driving up to the Tetons! From our house in Affton, MO it will take us approximately 18 hours and 58 minutes. (1,282 miles) We plan to do this drive in two days.

Jackson Hole Wyoming is 7 minutes away from Grand Teton National Park!

The Jackson Hole Airport code is JAC

Southwest Airlines does not fly directly into Jackson Hole Wyoming. We know, BIG TIME BUMMER. However, Southwest does fly into Salt Lake City International Airport (SLC) which is a 4 hour and 30 minute drive to GTNP. Southwest also flies into Bozeman Montana which is a 4 hour and 18 minute drive to GTNP.

You can fly into Idaho Falls Regional Airport (IDA) which is an hour and 45 minute drive to GTNP.

www.kayak.com is a great site to compare flight prices. We also suggest searching for flights "incognito" when doing research.

Wherever you fly into please know that (in our opinion) your drive to the Tetons will be so worth it!

Our wedding ceremony is at 3 pm on Thursday October 12. Feel free to arrive as early as you'd like though. We would love for everyone that plans to attend the ceremony and dinner to be in the area on Wednesday. &lt;3

Travel

Yellowstone National Park is only 31 miles from GTNP. If you're planning on making a vacation out of this trip, we highly suggest taking the drive to Yellowstone!
