Maya Angelou wrote “In all the world, there is no heart for me like yours. In all the world, there is no love for you like mine.” Her words truly speak to the love that Steve and I share.
I never knew my heart needed fixing until my car broke down that’s when I gave Steve a call to see if he could work on my car. In Habakkuk 2:2 It says to write the vision and make it plain. I had prayed for a man, a God-fearing man that would protect my heart and nurture my soul and spirit.
I envisioned a man that would love my child as his own. A man that would respect me, love me unconditionally, a man that was family oriented, unselfish, a loving man and a hardworking man.
Just as I was praying for a man, unbeknownst to me Steve was praying for a woman. A woman who would love his children and grandchildren, unconditionally, a God-fearing woman, a loving woman, a soul cooking woman, and a hardworking woman but most of all a woman that was beautiful inside and out.
Steve and I knew each other from growing up in the same community but never thought our paths would cross in such a divine way. After I met Steve to get an estimate for my car, it was clear that he was a man of God. After continuous casual conversation it was evident that there was a connection. Conversations grew longer. Sparks began to ignite. It was obvious that I needed Steve as much as he needed me.
Although we are not perfect, our love is perfectly crafted by God. We have the kind of love that God speaks of in 1st Corinthians13: 4-7: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
The love that Steve and I share is unmatched and ordained by God. T.D. Jakes' song "Usher Me" sums up our love story! "Thank you for the roses to brighten up my day, thank you for the tenderness to wipe my tears away, but when you see me drifting, sinking and needing lifting, Usher me into the presence of the Lord"
