Welcome to black bear country!
Experts estimate there are about 1500 black bears in the Great Smoky National Park. Bear sightings in these parts are common, even in populated areas.
REMOVE ALL TRASH AND FOOD FROM YOUR CAR.
Make sure all trash is disposed of in the proper bear-resistant containers. Lock your car and roll all windows up. YES BEARS KNOW HOW TO OPEN CAR DOORS. Just ask Stevo about his car door handle.
What to do if you see a bear:
Never approach a bear. Approaching a bear within 50 yards is illegal.
If you see a bear, back away slowly and NEVER turn and run.
Make sure a bear is aware of your presence by making load noises or yelling.
HEY BEAR!
