Our Story

How We Met: Stonewall's Point of View

While I was in paramedic school, I had to do rotations in the hospital. I did most of mine at UAB. I was doing a rotation at UAB when I met Megan for the first time. She was all bubbly talking to another nurse about taking a “me day”. I saw her and was thinking "Dang, she’s beautiful, and that real southern accent is cute." Throughout my rotation, she along with other nurses taught me how to start IVs and little tips and tricks. I mainly got good at running blood work to the lab for them. Soon I was done with paramedic school & only saw her when I would transport a patient to UAB. I thought about her frequently, and every time I saw her in the ER, I always thought she was so beautiful. Well, some 6 months later, I ended up liking a picture on Facebook where in return she liked one of my old pictures #stalker. One of my friends told me I should message her. I did. We talked for a week or so where I tried to meet up with her several times and she turned me down. Eventually she said yes, and that night we stayed up all night talking Now here we are today with a house, a dog, and getting married.

Our Engagement: Megan's Point of View

For my 29th birthday, I managed to persuade Stonewall to take a last minute weekend trip to NYC for a Harry Styles concert at Madison Square Gardens. Stonewall had never been to New York before, so it wasn’t that hard to talk him into it. We made a “must do” list for our weekend as tourists that included moments like going to a Yankees game, walking through Central Park, eating at a hot dog stand, and seeing the city from the top of the Empire State Building. Once we arrived to our “influencer hotel” as Stonewall calls it, I noticed quickly that something was different about the other hotel guests. I know that women in New York are known for their style but this was different. All the women were tall, thin, and stunning. Well, surprise!! It was fashion week and our hotel was hosting fittings for the models. Talk about a humbling experience. Still, We had the best time walking and subway hopping all around the city discovering New York’s neighborhoods. Stonewall stopped and met lots of FDNY’s finest while collecting station t-shirts as souvenirs for his friends (I did draw the line at his request to walk deep into the Bronx in search of a fire station). We agreed that there was still so much of New York to see, so we extended our trip. For our last full day in New York, we spent a lot of time at ground zero (my birthday is 9/11 so this was a heavy place to be). Stonewall was still in need of a couple more shirts for his friends, and he noticed a fire station catty corner to where the twin towers once stood. After talking to the firemen inside, he discovered that the men of that station were first on scene for the attacks of 9/11. Now, we needed some cheering up!! It was our last night, and we wanted to make the most of it. So we dressed in our best attire and made reservations at a nice Italian restaurant in Tribeca. We walked around the neighborhood with conversations of “what if we moved here”. We indulged in pasta, wine, and dessert at dinner while reminiscing on a wonderful weekend. But there was still one thing we had not checked off our “tourist to do”. So we hopped on a subway heading uptown and purchased tickets to ride the elevator 102 floors up to the viewing deck of the Empire State Building. The city lights were sparkling, and it started to lightly rain. I was so entranced by New York and her beauty that I didn’t even notice Stonewall dropping to one knee. He took my hand in his and asked me to be his wife. It was the most perfect moment of my life.
