How to get there

Málaga Airport (AGP) is the most convenient airport for Nerja. It’s around 50 minutes from the town, so transportation will be needed — whether that’s a private transfer, shared taxi, or car hire.

Taxis

The easiest and quickest way to get to Nerja from Málaga Airport is by pre-booked transfer. These can be arranged easily through sites like Booking.com. A minivan taxi typically costs around €70–€80, so it may be worthwhile to share with others if several guests are arriving together. ALWAYS!&nbsp;Pre-order your transport because if you take a taxi on arrival at the airport the drivers there charge much more.

Public Transport

The&nbsp;A Express&nbsp;bus (Line 75) leaves from outside the T3 arrivals area and to Malage bus station.The buses are every 20 to 30 minutes from 06:25 until 23:30 (to the airport) or 07:00 until 24:00 (from the airport). The journey time is 20 to 30 minutes. At&nbsp;Málaga Bus Station, purchase a ticket from the Alsa Bus Company office. A beautiful viewing point and lively hub of the town. Staying nearby means you’ll be within easy walking distance of the beaches, restaurants, nightlife, and the wedding venue, making it the perfect base for your trip.

Beaches

Nerja’s coastline is dotted with sandy bays and coves — here are a few of the most popular:Calahonda &amp; El Salón — two small, picturesque beaches tucked just below the Balcón de Europa, perfect for a quick swim or a relaxed afternoon by the sea.Burriana — Nerja’s biggest and most developed beach. Packed with beach bars (chiringuitos), sunbeds, umbrellas, and water sport options. Ideal for a full beach day, though it’s a little further from the town’s nightlife.Other local beaches: La Caletilla, La Torrecilla, Playazo, and Carabeo are all worth exploring if you want to beach-hop.

Places to Visit Near Nerja

If you’d like to explore beyond the town itself, there are some fantastic day trips nearby:Nerja Caves (Cuevas de Nerja) — one of Spain’s most famous cave systems, featuring enormous caverns, prehistoric cave paintings, and even a natural amphitheatre for concerts. Only 10 minutes from town.Frigiliana — a stunning whitewashed village set in the hills above Nerja. Known as one of the prettiest pueblos blancos in Spain, with cobbled streets, Moorish architecture, and amazing views. About 15 minutes by car or bus.Maro — a charming small village near the caves, quieter than Nerja, with pretty streets and traditional Andalusian charm.Almuñécar — a seaside town about 25 minutes away, with beaches, a castle, and Roman ruins.Granada &amp; the Alhambra — around 1.5 hours by car, this world-famous Moorish palace and fortress is a must-see if you have extra time in Spain.

Instead, here are some recommendations we’ve gathered from friends and people involved in the wedding. All are based on location, good feedback, and proximity to the Balcón de Europa — the heart of Nerja. These are just examples and suggestions to help get you started — if you’re researching yourself, as long as you’re close to the Balcón you’ll be in a great location.

Tapas in the Old Town

The Balçón de Europa is the centre and heart of Nerja’s old town — from here, the charming tapas alleys spread out in all directions. Below are some top tapas bars close by, in walking distance of the Balcón:El Redondo (Round Bar) — quirky and fun, run by the same owners as Buddha Bar; a local-meet-tourists favourite - buy a drink and get a tapas free.El Pulguilla — famous for its seafood tapas; grilled squid is a highlight.Esquina Paulina — warm, cosy and authentic; a great spot just off the Balcón, often with a lively atmosphere.La Biznaga — situated right on the Balcón de Europa, offering a broad and affordable tapas menu.La Taberna — very Spanish in look and feel, one of the first you encounter when walking from the Balcón.Sevillano — a cute little corner bar, often busy and buzzing with visitors.

Nerja has no shortage of good Italian food — from bargain pizzas to big group meals. Here are some favourites:Pinocchio (Best for groups) — great for large tables, they handle big numbers easily and have an extensive menu with something for everyone.Little Italy (Best for a bargain) — famous for its budget-friendly menu (around €3.50 for a pizza). The food is surprisingly good for the price, though be prepared to queue — it’s always busy and tables turn quickly.Bella Roma — a well-established spot serving a full range of Italian classics, from pasta to pizza.La Fuente — centrally located and offering a mix of Italian and Mediterranean dishes in a lively square.La Bottega (New Town) — a stylish, modern Italian/Mediterranean restaurant, perfect for a slightly more upmarket evening.Don Chisciotte (New Town) — authentic Italian cooking with friendly service; another strong choice outside the very centre.

Burriana Beach Area

Burriana is Nerja’s most famous beach, and it’s also packed with chiringuitos (beach bars and restaurants) serving fresh seafood, tapas, and classic Spanish dishes. A few highlights:Ayo’s — a Nerja institution! Famous for its giant paella cooked over an open fire. This is a must-try while you’re in Nerja.José Cruz — long-standing restaurant right on the beach, serving excellent seafood and paella.Moreno’s — a popular beachside spot with a loyal following, known for hearty seafood dishes and a lively atmosphere.Chiringuito de Ayo II — another option from the same family, slightly less busy than the original but equally good.
