Richmond is an old city, but growing quickly with a fun and open vibe. Below is a list of some of Connor and Suri's favorite places in the city. Check them out while you're in town, and tell us what you think!
Maymont is a stunning 100-acre estate filled with botantical gardens and nature exhibits. Connor and Suri highly recommend their Oriental Garden and suggest you stop by the Raptor Recovery Center to check out some eagles on the mend! There is no admission fee for the grounds and garden, although paid tours of the estate buildings are offered.
Belle Isle is a beautiful fifty acre island in the middle of the James River right in the middle of downtown Richmond. It is accessible from parking on Tredegar St. (pops up on GoogleMaps) and is reached via the pedestrian bridge that runs under U.S Route 1. Used in the Civil War as a POW camp, Belle Isle is a great place for a walk on a hot day and frames the beauty of Richmond with its darker history. For the history buffs, it is very close to Tredegar Ironworks, one of the largest Confederate Metal Factories during the Civil War.
The Brogans have been going to Lewis Ginter for over a decade now. The botanical garden stretches over fifty acres and is always worth seeing. Admission fees for the gardens are listed on their website and range from $8.00 for children to $14.00 for adults.
Free admission. Exhibits change monthly so check the website for what's new! We recommend the photorealism section.
