Thanks!

We want to thank everyone who made this day possible and so, so memorable! Our wedding planner, Carla Young, and her assistant, Ashley, who kept me calm and kept everything on schedule. Thanks to both of you for your invaluable suggestions. Our celebrant, Rev. Bill Young, who helped us to create a very personal and touching ceremony. Our caterer, Barbara Herman of A1A Ale House, whose calm advice and suggestions made the reception seamless. Our DJ, Sir Charles, kept everyone on the dance floor. Our cake bakery, Crème de la Cocoa, and our florist, Jade Violet were top-notch and high-quality; I could not have asked for more skilled and creative individuals! Last, but not least, thanks to our friends and family, especially those in the wedding party and those who came long distances to help us to celebrate this happy occasion. We will be forever grateful to all of you for your help, your warm wishes, and for making our wedding one we will remember forever. Thank you, one and all, from the bottom of our hearts!

DAVID: Susan and I met at a line dance class. We enjoy the exercise and we treasure the friendships we have formed within the Villages dance community.SUSAN: Funny how fate steps in. If I hadn't decided to partially retire, I never would have joined that particular dance class and we never would have met. Thanks, Traci! (my old manager).

How we met

DAVID: It was election night and I came in with a red, white and blue cupcake with the engagement ring on top.I offered the cupcake to Susan who at first did not notice the ring and was going to save the cupcake for later. I asked her to take a closer look and she realized it was a proposal.SUSAN: I can't see a thing clearly without my glasses and was wondering, "What's the big deal with this darn cupcake?" Just to appease David I grabbed my glasses and finally saw the ring.DAVID: After a lengthy hug and a few tears of happiness she said yes. It was a very happy night.

The Proposal

DAVID: We have started making many memories together enjoying the outdoors and being active. We take a walk almost every evening when we can just relax and enjoy each others company. We've gone zip lining several times, which is now one of our favorite things.SUSAN: My goal is to get David out of his comfort zone (and out of the country!) so we have some trips/cruises lined up. I've already introduced him to zip-lining and Craig-catting in Mt. Dora. Next, paddle-boarding and parasailing. Woo-hoo!

What to Wear

Attire is business-professional. Gentlemen, preferred attire would be a suit, blazer, or sport coat with a tie, long pants, and closed shoes. Ladies, a nice dress, long pants and blouse, or similar would be fine.

Everyone: please, no beach shoes, shorts, polo shirts, jeans, or denim in any form. We want people to be comfortable, of course, but please dress for the occasion.

Details

The groom's daughter and her husband, Brian live in Ovilla, Texas - when they're at home. Much of the time they can be found traveling the country in their RV. One of their favorite places to go is Lake Ouachita near Hot Springs, AK, where they enjoy boating and spending time with other campers. David says of Renee and Brian: "They've never met a stranger".

The bride's daughter currently resides in Philadelphia, PA with her boyfriend Matt Borda and her cat, Ramona Quimby ("Mona" to us). Courtney enjoys exploring Philadelphia, trying new restaurants, and going to Broadway shows.

The bride's son currently hails from Kalamazoo, Michigan, where he is a "back of the house" manager at a popular restaurant. An avid poet and artist, David is best known for his free spirit and friendly nature.

St. Augustine offers a wide variety of accommodations in the Historic District and surrounding areas, including at St. Augustine beach, right over the Bridge of Lions near King Street. Known for its B&B's and historic inns, St. Augustine also features hotels and motels (including major chains like Hilton, Hampton, Doubletree, and Best Western), resorts, condos, vacation rentals, and camping facilities. Rates are lower as you go further from the Historic District, including on St. Augustine Beach. Bed and Breakfasts tend to be the most expensive, followed by hotels and motels. There is a cluster of national chain hotels right near the beach. Guests can drive to the Lightner Museum from their hotel within 15 minutes, or can ride the beach bus (operated by Old Town Trolley). The same 3-day ticket allows you to ride both the in-town trolley and the beach bus.

IMPORTANT NOTE: We realize that many people may find the drive to St. Augustine difficult, or may not want to stay overnight. We&nbsp; are chartering a bus that will take guests to and from the event. Please check the "Bus From The Villages" page for details.

The Lightner Museum and Sala Menendez

There are a limited number of sleeping rooms available in private homes in The Villages. From there guests can drive to St. Augustine or take the optional shuttle directly to the venue. FOR THOSE COMING FROM OUT OF TOWN

In St. Augustine, take the Old Town Trolley to see St. Augustine's many historical sights. Your ticket allows you to hop on and off at various sites for 3 days. The trolley stops right in the front courtyard of the Lightner Museum. There is also a bus that will take you across the bridge to some of the beach areas. Purchase tickets online. The same 3-day ticket allows you to ride both the in-town trolley and the beach bus.

Old Town Trolley Tours St Augustine

The Historic District of St. Augustine is full of narrow, one way streets - very walkable but can be a challenge to navigate by car. Once you park your car, you will rarely need it.

The best place to park is the Historic Downtown Parking Facility adjacent to the Visitor Information Center at 10 South Castillo Drive. The parking garage is an easy walk to the Visitors Information Center and the historic district. Cost to park in the garage for the full day and evening hours is $12 per car. Cash, credit card, or debit card accepted.

Parking lots are located throughout the downtown area and on-street parking is available in many areas. Some areas require payment for parking with a pay-station and others with meters. Pay stations accept cash, credit or debit cards (Visa or MasterCard).Meters accept coins or ParkNow cards (available only to local residents); no credit or debit cards. Parking in these areas is enforced 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Saturday, excluding national holidays. The Castillo de San Marcos lot is enforced seven days a week, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Note that enforcement in the King Street/Cathedral Place area begins at 10 a.m., Monday-Saturday.

Rate: $1.50 per hour

Time limit: on-street - 3 hours / pay station lots - 4 hours

Also, the movie theatre behind the Lightner Museum will allow parking in their lot for $10 per day.

The Lightner Museum is housed in the former Alcazar Hotel built in 1888 by Henry Morrison Flagler (1830-1913). The hotel was often called "the castle of happy returns."The hotel was at the peak of its popularity during the 1890's. More than 25,000 guests visited the Alcazar during those early winter seasons and countless more used the recreational facilities of the casino. For the pleasure of the guests, there was the world's largest indoor swimming pool at the time (which now houses the museum's restaurant); the grand ballroom, sulfur baths, a steam room, massage parlor, a gymnasium, a bowling alley, archery ranges, tennis courts and a bicycle academy.The Museum's eclectic collection ranges from a mummy, shrunken heads, human hair art, cigar labels, buttons, salt and pepper shakers, to Tiffany glass, cut glass, porcelain, fine art paintings, furniture and sculpture all housed throughout the four floors of the original Alcazar Hotel. The museum also hosts special exhibits and tours throughout the year.

Get on the Bus! (Updated)

For guests leaving from the Villages, we have arranged for transportation directly to the wedding site. This will allow guests to celebrate without worrying about the drive back to the Villages. Guests will also not have to worry about parking, which can be at a premium in St. Augustine (especially on weekends). 

The bus will leave the Lake Sumter Landing depot at 10 AM sharp and will return to the same spot at around 10 PM.&nbsp;There will be bottled water, maps of St. Augustine, and trolley maps with a $5.00-off coupon on the bus.

We Are Not Registered Anywhere...

People have been asking us about gifts and where we are registered. It may sound corny, but our most precious gift is to celebrate our wedding surrounded by family and friends.&nbsp;
