Some of you may already know how we started, but if you don't here is our silly little story ; ).
It all began the night of August 28th, 2021 at Syd’s sister Aubrey’s wedding to Garth Griffith in Colby, Kansas. It was a hot summer night, so we both found each other outside sitting on the stairs. Now this is where Greg thinks he made the first move by introducing himself, but I of course disagree. We were both having a good time, and didn't really think too much of it.
I had just moved back to the states from Asia where I had been for 4 years. I’d gotten a "temporary" job working at Legend's bar and grill in downtown Atwood, planning to just save money and be off to the next place. A few days after the wedding, Greg came and sat at the bar. My shift was ending so I decided to make the first real move and ask Greg over for a drink. We sat in the garage watching the rain, and talking into the very late hours of the night (aka morning haha). The following week was Labor Day weekend where we both separately had plans to go to the lake, so instead we decided to go together. During that time, I took Greg on his first jet ski ride where I threw him off about 4 times. After a fun filled weekend, Greg was feeling sick. So, he visited urgent care and they admitted him into the hospital for pneumonia where he stayed for 4 days. The cause? Inhaling dirty lake water. Definitely my fault (oops), but I'm beyond happy he stuck around because we have been inseparable ever since. Greg’s note: It helped that she checked on me regularly, and brought me some amazing food and a good book.
Fast forward, 6 months later, I moved into Greg's home in little ol' Ludell, Kansas. Because we both have a love for travel, at the time, we had a very big trip planned to Europe where we really put our love to the test. We backpacked from England to Scotland then Ireland to France. We of course missed some flights, then found ourselves stuck in Montreal where we lounged in our hotel room and worked through our jetlag. Thankfully, we didn't end the trip wanting to kill each other. After returning, we completed (for now) our little family and adopted our Chewbacca looking, lovely dog Scrappy.
In April 2024, we fulfilled one of Greg's lifelong dreams of visiting Joshua Tree National park where we rented a beautiful house in the middle of the desert. With some of my oldest and dearest friends attending, he made it official and proposed! I obviously said yes :)
It really didn't take long for us to both realize we found our people and we both feel very lucky to have found love that will truly last a lifetime. Never in a million years did I think I would end up in a tiny little town in Kansas marrying my best friend, but I am incredibly thankful everyday. We are so excited for what the future holds, and grateful we have such amazing friends and family to spend it with.
It will be weekend of fun, food, dancing, and refreshments, and one which hopefully none of us will ever forget.
With love,
S&G
