Our Wedding

Our friendship began when God had us serving together as youth interns at Watkinsville First Baptist Church over a year ago. Looking back, we always laugh about our first day as interns because during our orientation one of the pastors said our “future spouse might be sitting directly across the table.” He said that as we were, ironically and literally, sitting directly across the table from each other.&nbsp; We continued through the internship that fall semester and started to notice that we were laughing with one another across the room during our intern meetings (and no one was laughing with us). Our relationship began when I (Sydney) strategically decided to go talk to Neil during church picnic.&nbsp; (Sydney) The first moment I noticed Neil was when I was working on a project in the student center, and he rushed over to help me. It felt like at that moment, time stopped, and my heart jolted. Neil being the quiet, humble man he is, was a man of mystery to me, but after that first moment, I knew he was someone special and I wanted to get to know him better. As we continued to serve alongside one another, I noticed that he was a servant leader and always made sure that those around him were being cared for. He came to student service early and stayed late. He made me laugh harder than I ever had in my life. I started to talk to him more as we served as interns, and as our friendship grew, I began to feel like the Lord had made Neil just for me.&nbsp; (Neil) All the way back during VBS of 2023, a whole summer before we started interning together, I remember meeting Syd for the first time in the Worship Center at Watty, looking at the VBS decorations. Even from that brief interaction I knew that Sydney was someone special from the sincere joy and kindness that seemed to shine from the Holy Spirit Himself. That fall, I faced an issue I had not anticipated. For a while, I had decided that I would focus on the Lord and not start dating until maybe my senior year of college. You can imagine my surprise when suddenly I could not stop talking to this girl (not being able to stop talking was an issue I had not experienced before), and she even seemed to like me back. So I panicked as I dreaded the day that she would realize that she was ten times out of my league. But after a lot of prayer, a lot of counsel, I resolved to put my fears in the Lord’s good hands and ask her out. And for some reason she said yes! What originally attracted me to Sydney is the same thing that I love about her today: her love for the Lord and her love for others. She seeks to bring Him glory in all that she does, and strives to make His name known through both her words and her actions. (Also, she still hasn’t realized that she is ten times out of my league so all y’all need to keep your mouth shut, ya hear?) After a month or two of talking, we decided to start dating. This decision was not a light one for us because we both felt that if we started dating, we wouldn’t want to be apart.&nbsp; Many dates and a summer in Boston together later confirmed what we knew to be true. We liked each other. So much so that the idea of not spending a life together felt unimaginable.&nbsp; The Proposal (Sydney) Last November, I was studying for my teaching exams, and the day after my exams Neil took me on a day trip to Cloudland Canyon. I was absolutely clueless as to what he was planning. We hiked around the canyon and later that evening he took me on a picnic in a meadow nearby. Over our summer in Boston, Neil wrote me eight letters for each week we were there. As we sat in that meadow, he decided to read them to me. What I didn’t realize was that the last word of every letter spelled out “Will you marry me?” I was wonderfully surprised and after two minutes of being in shock, I of course, said yes!&nbsp; We are both so incredibly excited to be getting married in May and can’t wait to spend however long the Lord blesses us together worshiping and serving the one true God with all that we have. Our relationship is a testament to God's faithfulness and redemptive work, without Him we would not be here. We dedicate our engagement, our wedding, and our lives to Him and His glory alone.&nbsp;
