Our Story

The Beginning

Picture of The Beginning

Adrian and I first met on September 18, 2022, at a football game. What started as a casual encounter quickly turned into something neither of us expected.

A week later, on September 25, we had our first "date" at the library. We were supposed to study, but instead, we ended up talking for hours. Adrian didn't know at the time, but I had butterflies the whole time, and I didn't know at the time that Adrian tried on 4 different outfits to look guapo for me. By November 11, 2022, we officially became a couple, excited to continue learning about each other.

Then came December, and Adrian had to head back to Mexico after his first semester in the U.S. The distance gave us both time to reflect, and it was during that winter break that we each realized something important. Until then, we’d been cautious about saying "I love you"—not because we didn’t feel it, but because we didn’t know what the future held. For me, Sydney, I was scared to fall in love only to possibly never see him again. But during that time apart, we each knew we had to try to make the logistics work.

On January 18, 2023, after some visa delays and missing the first week of his second semester, Adrian finally got the green light to return. He came back to finish out the school year, and we picked up right where we left off. And, as they say, the rest is history.

If you are reading this, you have been part of our story, and we say thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Q&A

WHAT'S THE WEATHER GOING TO BE LIKE?

87.8°F/60.8°F in Tepic (wedding venue) & 89.6°F/71.6°F in Puerto Vallarta (recommended airport)

IS THE TRAVEL PACKAGE THE ONLY WAY TO ATTEND THE WEDDING?

No! If you're feeling adventurous or the travel package doesn't match your plans, we will add hotels, restaurants and important information in the travel section for you to create your own itinerary.

IS MY CARD SUPPORTED IN MEXICO?

Places like hotels, malls, and some restaurants support VISA and MASTERCARD. They usually also support AMEX. (We suggest carrying your physical card since apple pay is not usually supported.)

DO I NEED CASH?

Yes! Even though you might be able to pay with card in some places, you will find that many local stores, street food restaurants, etc. only take cash - especially in Tepic.

WHERE CAN I GET CASH?

The safest option will always be the airport. You will find currency exchange locations inside the airport. (They can't charge your card directly, so you need to exchange with cash.) $1.00 USD is equivalent to approximately $18.00 MX pesos. Another option is to get cash at the airport's ATMs (in Mexico). ATMs will automatically convert the currency and charge a small fee.

WHAT DO PRICES LOOK LIKE?

This may vary depending on where you're spending most of your time. Puerto Vallarta (recommended airport) is a very touristy place where you may find similar prices as in the U.S., but Tepic is a very local town where prices are significantly lower. What does lower mean? Fine-dining restaurants: $30.00 USD per person (food, drink, & tip); Local restaurants: Around $15.00 USD or lower per person (food, drink, & tip); Local transportation (Uber): No more than $8.00 USD per trip all around the city; Hotels: Around $60.00 USD per night for 2.

ARE PEOPLE GOING TO SPEAK ENGLISH?

In Vallarta, most people will speak English since it's a touristic place; however, in Tepic, it's very probable people won't speak English, as it's a local town.

DO I NEED A PASSPORT?

Yes! You need a valid passport. A VISA is NOT required.

WHICH AIRPORT SHOULD I FLY INTO?

Our recommendation is to fly into Puerto Vallarta because it's the nearest international airport to Tepic (2 hours away), and it's a place with a lot of Americans and international tourism (great option if you want to stay a few days and vacation). If you struggle finding flights, a second option would be Guadalajara International Airport (2.5 hours away from Tepic), which also has shuttle options to Tepic. The difference is that Guadalajara is a big city with less tourism and harder to move around, but if your plan is not vacation and just make it to Tepic, this option is great.

WHAT AIRLINE SHOULD I PICK?

Our top recommendations are DELTA, AMERICAN AIRLINES and UNITED AIRLINES for the quality and variety of flights. Those are the ones we have tried but feel free to pick any airline of your preference. We don't recommend Mexican airlines because their english might not be the best, but if you pick a Mexican one, AEROMEXICO is the most trustworthy one.

IS TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED FROM THE AIRPORT?

Trustworthy taxis will always be available at the airport (expect higher prices). Uber is not allowed inside the airport. Taxis can take you to your hotel, restaurants, or a bus station, but not to Tepic since it's a long distance.

IS THERE ANY SHUTTLE TO TEPIC?

Bus will be your best option. If you're departing from Vallarta, the bus station is "Centra de Autobuses Puerto Vallarta" (2 hours to Tepic). If you are departing from Guadalajara, the bus station is called "Terminal de Autobuses Nuevo Milenio de Zapopan"(2.5 hours to Tepic). Details are provided on the travel section

CAN I DRINK THE WATER?

NO! In Mexico, water from the sink or the shower is not drinkable - only bottled water. You can still brush your teeth in the sink, but never drink the water.

SHOULD I BE CAUTIOUS WITH FOOD?

Just be aware that cuisines and ingredients are different. We recommend that you ask if food/salsas are spicy before ordering/trying it. If you tend to have a sensitive stomach, we suggest avoiding street food altogether, even if it might be the best :(

HOW MUCH SHOULD I TIP IN MEXICO?

In the U.S., we tip for absolutely everything. It's NOT like that in Mexico. In Mexico, there's a standard rate of 10% for tips at restaurants only. When paying with card, you can ask the waiter to add the 10% for the tip, or you can always leave cash. People won't ask you for the tip so don't forget about it! At all-inclusive resorts, you can leave up to $50 pesos for food/drink service. Places you do NOT tip: pick-up services like Starbucks, beauty services (hair cut), Uber (skip tip), taxi, and other transportation services.

DOES UBER WORK IN MEXICO?

Yes! Both Uber eats and Uber for transportation work in Mexico. (No tipping necessary)

WILL MY PHONE WORK IN MEXICO?

Yes! Most American phone companies work in Mexico. If you find that your data is not working (iPhone), go to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options > Roaming On

IS THE CEREMONY INDOORS OR OUTDOORS?

Outdoors! The religious ceremony and the reception are in the same outdoor location. Rain is not expected, but there's a roof in case of rain shower.

WHICH HOTEL OR RESTAURANTS SHOULD I PICK?

See "travel section".
