David and Sydney met and marked the start of their journey towards marriage in June of 2022. She had just finished her sophomore year of college at Oregon Institue of Technology in the Cardiac Sonography program and he was a farmer and machinist from Northwestern Oregon. She promised herself that she would focus on school and not boys, but everything changed when a mutual friend insisted she contact him.
David and Sydney skipped the small talk and started asking the important questions. They quickly realized their interest, goals, morals, and values aligned. After one short week of long phone conversations, they met in person. They didn’t start out with the typical date because summertime for a farmer means non-stop work. One Tuesday, Sydney decided to drive from Eugene to Sauvie Island where they met in a tractor for the very first time. They spent that whole day together and he introduced her to his sister and one of his best friends. The next weekend he drove to Eugene, met her family, and asked her to be his girlfriend at a nearby lake. They spent many hours that summer farming, doing outdoor activities, and getting to know one another on a deeper level. They knew within three months that they had found their forever person. The two ended up dating long distance for 22 months while she finished college. Within this time they grew to know and love each other and their families.
In December of 2023, David asked her father’s permission for her hand in marriage while on a hunting trip in Texas. The next week David and Sydney got the privilege to go on a Caribbean cruise with his family. On December 20th, 2023 he proposed on Seven Mile Beach on the island of Grand Cayman. After she graduated in June of 2024, Sydney moved to Hillsboro, started a new job, and finally got to live in the same city as her fiancé. At the same time Sydney was moving, David bought his second house in Forest Grove. Since then, they have been renovating their future home, working hard, and preparing for the life they will begin together in May.
The two continue to learn about each other, grow daily, and stand strong with faith at the center of their relationship. They believe they’ve found a love that God intended for them to last for all eternity and they can’t wait to become one as husband and wife.
