In the spring of 2014, Sydney and Kurt had both registered for a May Term study abroad experience to Cuba through Westminster College. Although Westminster was a small campus and had a small student body, Sydney and Kurt had never crossed paths, despite sharing many mutual friends.&nbsp;

During the preliminary classes before&nbsp;the trip,&nbsp;Sydney was&nbsp;smitten. Kurt was handsome and smart and gave her butterflies instantly. She left classes gushing over Kurt.&nbsp;

The two grew closer over the next few weeks once they arrived in Cuba. Kurt was captivated by Sydney's blue eyes one night salsa dancing.&nbsp;The close proximity and lack of a&nbsp;social media presence&nbsp;while abroad made the two feel like they had known each other for years. Their shared love of travel and need for adventure created an instant bond. One night on a beach, he kissed her under the moonlight and the rest was history.&nbsp;

Once back in the states, their bond only grew. Six years later and Kurt and Sydney are ready to tie the knot. They'll always be looking for the next adventure to share&nbsp;together.&nbsp;

How We Met

Over the years, Syd and I have always been drawn back to Red Rock Canyon outside of Las Vegas. The climbing is world class, the biking is amazing, and the landscape feels like it is out of a Dr Seuss book. Last spring, we set out from the car in the dark to get to the base of the cliff by first light. The route was beautiful, and it seemed that there wasn’t anyone else in the canyon. Normally, heights have a way of harnessing all of my attention. This day however, each pitch of seemed to pass effortlessly.



The views from the summit were beautiful as we stopped to sign the registry. Asking if Syd could go for a cliff bar, I pulled the ring from my pack. The rest was a blur, but somehow Syd conveyed the answer, “yes,” to my proposal. Covered with dirt and filled with joy, we made our way off the climb and back across the desert floor.
