Our Wedding

Cody and I went on our first date when we were 15 years old to our local movie theater. We remained friends throughout high school and started officially dating our freshman year of college. On October 20th, 2013 Cody bought a necklace from James Avery and wrote on the box "Will you be my girlfriend?". From there on out we were inseparable and together we learned how to navigate our now adult lives. Cody and I have grown so much together, and have shared so many adventures. Some of our favorite dates include taking day trips around Texas, hiking, and trying new restaurants downtown. We also enjoy going to the gym,&nbsp;trying new recipes and traveling.&nbsp;

Our Story

On May 6th, 2017 Cody had told me earlier that day that we were going to go to this French restaurant that I had been wanting to try. He said that we were going to go to celebrate his graduation from college and the completion of my first semester in graduate school. At around 5 o'clock he came by the house to pick me up and we started to drive towards downtown. As we were driving on the highway Cody said "Oh no! I forgot something!" He then immediately U-turned. However, instead of heading back towards his apartment he exited underneath the 360 bridge. 

 After he parked we started walking out to the edge of the field near the water. As we got closer I saw that there was a table set up that had various pictures on it from the very first year of our relationship. Also, the table included roses, champagne, and rose petals leading up to it as well. Once we arrived at the table Cody handed me an envelope to read. After I had read the letter that he written&nbsp;to me I looked up and saw that he was on his knee and he then asked if I would marry him. Of course, I said yes! 



After the proposal, Cody told me to turn around and I saw our friend Shelby, who is a photographer, taking pictures of us from far away. Also, Cody's friend, and best man, Josef&nbsp;Omar had been hiding behind a tree videoing us the whole time! Cody and I toasted with the Champagne he had boughten and then Shelby took pictures of us that I will cherish forever! After our engagement photo shoot we left the 360 bridge to go to Chez Nous which was the French restaurant Cody had promised. Following dinner Cody and I had drinks at the Driskill hotel which coincidently is the very place where my parents had their wedding reception! May 6th, 2017 was such an amazing night and I couldn't have asked for a better start to our engagement. I am so thankful for all of the hard work that Cody put into it and am excited to be in this new chapter of life with him.

Our Engagement as told by Sydney

I woke up on May 6th, 2017 knowing one&nbsp;thing. &nbsp;I&nbsp;knew that&nbsp;I was going to ask my best friend to marry me.

I have never really been the best planner at any point in my life but I knew exactly how I wanted to ask Sydney the most important question she could imagine. The hardest part was trying to surprise the woman that seemed to know everything about me. But luckily, her prior knowledge of me having a great disability in planning things played out in my favor. 



I knew she was a fan of French dining and there was a place downtown she had mentioned she wanted to try. I remember telling her I made reservations and convincing her it was to celebrate my recent graduation. 



What she didn't know was that on the way to "dinner" I was intentionally scaring her by telling her that I had left something at my apartment so I had to make a U-turn on 360 and headed back in the opposite direction. I could tell she was disappointed and worried that we would not make it to dinner. However, I think she became less worried when I exited under the 360 bridge and asked her to get out of the car with me. I walked with her into a field in front of the lake where I had set up a small table with the help of my good friend Josef Omar. As we got closer she could see an ice bucket with champagne, pictures of us set out, and rose petals all around us. On the table I left her a card to read expressing exactly how much she meant to me and when she&nbsp;moved the card down from her face I was waiting on one knee, to ask her to spend the rest of her life with me.
