Our Wedding

Our story starts back in 2012 at Niwot High school. Tanner was a junior, and I was a freshman. We didn’t know each other well, but had a common connection with our best friends who just so happened to be brother and sister, Pate and Ila Katechis. Tanner and I both spent a lot of time at their house, seeing each other in passing but never interacting. To me he was just my best friend's older brother's friend “ew.” I always secretly thought that Tanner was cute, and Ila and I joke about a day back then at school when I had told her “hey you know who I think is kinda cute, Tanner Kirkpatrick” and Ila just laughing back at me. Time went on and he graduated and I stopped seeing him around, until 2016 and he attended my high school graduation party with Pate and their friend Scott. At this time I was headed to college and still thinking that Tanner was just my best friend's older brother's friend, and would never had the courage to talk to him.&nbsp;

Fast forward to 2018 my sophomore year of college and Tanner’s senior year of college we reconnect on social media IYKYK. ;) Tanner and I start talking, reminiscing on how we knew each other back in high school but never interacted. We are starting to get to know each other, but Tanner is still back in Kearney at school and one day just stops responding to me. As the kids say these days he “ghosted” me. So not cool, but he was just living out his last days in college so I will forgive him. It’s not until months later in August that I hear from Tanner again. The reason I can remember it so well is because he texts me on August 4th “happy birthday.” My birthday is on August 3rd… and I remember thinking “thanks dude, but you’re a day late.” Tanner claims that was his plan all along and he decided that no one else would be wishing me happy birthday on the wrong day. He wasn’t wrong and it clearly made an impression on me, even to this day. From this day on we start talking every day, until I finally work up the courage to invite him up to Greeley where I was for school.&nbsp; The first person I text is Ila, telling her who am I going to be hanging out with. Anyone who knows Tanner knows that he can be shy, Ila suggests I have shots waiting at the door for him. I ended up not needing any shots, and it went better than expected! It felt like we had known each other for years, and the minute he left I was already thinking about the next time I was going to see him. I immediately text Ila that “IM IN LOVE” and she says “dude wouldn’t it be insane if you guys got married” little did we know here are we about to get married. I guess the saying “when you know, you know” is true.&nbsp;

Time flies, 5 years and a dog later the day finally came when Tanner decided to ask me to marry him. The best part… I had no idea it was coming. I was so convinced that it would be 5 years from now. That to say I was very happy that wasn’t the case. It was Saturday November 5th, and we were on our way to meet our favorite people Pate and Sami Katechis for dinner. Right before leaving for dinner Tanner was pacing our apartment, acting very strange. I really thought nothing of it, I was just relaxing on the couch. He finally asks if I’m ready for dinner, and we head to the car. The first thing I do is start playing the new Taylor Swift album, that should’ve been the second clue that something big was happening. Tanner is NOT a big Taylor Swift fan, and usually immediately changes the song when she comes on. This time he didn’t change it. We drive, I jam out, and then we magically get a “flat tire.” Did I feel the tire pop? No. But I decide to just believe his worried face and get out of the car to check it out. You’d like to think I would have had some idea at this point, the pacing in the apartment, not turning my music off, or not even feeling the tire pop. But nope I really thought this day was not coming anytime soon. We then start leaving the car and taking a walk down a path, when it finally hits me. Tanner had his mom and sister set up the whole thing, and it was more perfect than I could have even imagined. He even had his sister hiding in the bushes taking pictures the whole time (thanks Kait, we couldn’t have done it without you.)&nbsp;
