A classic love story with a modern twist. Technology connected them but dogs kept them together.  Brett and Syerra actually met on the dating app Bumble in March 2022, luckily, they both swiped right. She lived in Big Rapids working for Ferris’s football team and he was up there spending time with his fraternity brothers. Syerra immediately got a response from Brett after having to send the first message. He tried to get Syerra to hangout that night, but she went to sleep instead, with the initial thought she was never going to hear from him again. She was wrong, she woke up the next day to a good morning text from him. They facetimed that evening after he picked up Bear and Daisy from his parents. He mentioned he wanted to hangout and suggested she come to help him dog sit the following weekend as he was going to be watching two other dogs as well as his own and could use some help. Syerra reluctantly agreed but even after facetiming every night she tried to get out of it and used gas prices as an excuse. Brett offered to drive from Midland to Big Rapids and pick her up Friday and bring her home Sunday; that is exactly what happened. They drove back to Midland together and it felt as if they had known each other for years. They spent that entire weekend hanging out with the dogs, watching movies, talking, and much to their surprise…. falling in love. April 16th, 2022, the couple became official and that May Syerra moved in with Brett (which was just supposed to be for the summer); she never moved out.   Fast forward to summer 2024, Syerra wanted to go up north for her birthday, so they asked Brett’s parents to go to Mackinaw Island with them. They drove up August 2nd to Mackinaw and took the ferry to the island. The couple looked through different shops and were trying to figure out what to do next when Brett’s mom suggested we take a carriage ride. The four of them hopped in and learned the history of Mackinaw Island. We had just passed The Grand Hotel and were in front of the summer cottages when the driver (whom just like Syerra also didn’t know what was about to happen) suggested this is a good place to take a photo. Syerra and Brett jumped out and took the photo, as she went to get back into the carriage Brett pulled her hand back and told her to wait one second. Syerra immediately knew what was about to happen; every moment of their relationship flashed through her eyes. When she realized what was fully happening Brett was down on one knee with a stunning view of The Mackinaw Bridge in the background and continued to ask, “Will you marry me?” She started crying, shook her head yes and hugged him tighter than she ever has before. They celebrated all day and had a special moment that evening just the two of them getting their favorite ice cream and taking part in the “proposal debrief!”   Soon they will be The Howsons!

Here is another option for a hotel, we do not have a room block here but it is a great option as well!
