Olds is a small Agriculture Community located around 1 hour North of Calgary and only 2 hours east of the beautiful Banff National park.

December will be a winter wonderland of snowy fields and views of the Rocky mountains in the distance. Try you skills at ice skating at the many outdoor skating rinks or strap on some cross country skis for a bit of exercise in the outdoors. If you like some warmth, you can go enjoy the jacuzzi, sauna, water slide or lap pool at the Olds or Didsbury aquatic centers. The Olds one has a beautiful mural and the walls in Didsbury are painted to resemble a beautiful beach! Olds also has a 10 pin bowling alley that serves food and drinks.

Otherwise make the 2hour trip to Canmore, Kananaskis Provincial Park, and/or Banff and experience winter in the mountains for some fantastic photo opportunities and lasting memories. With many ski hills in close proximity hire a snow board or skis and test your skills on world class mountains.

If your adventure spirit (and time) takes you farther (4hrs from Olds, in good road conditions) into the mountains, you can cross the continental divide into British Columbia and towards Golden - where yet another ski hill awaits!

If you are curious about the creatures that roamed the earth millions of years ago, you can take a 1hr 15min drive to Drumheller and visit the world-renowned Royall Tyrell Museum, full of astounding fossils and displays and admire the badlands - a landscape out of this world!

If the cold has you looking for the indoors, you can take a 2.5 hr trip north to Edmonton and explore the once largest mall in the world - West Edmonton Mall. With a giant waterpark, wave pool, skating rink, mini golf and theme park, you can have fun and be warm all under one roof. Just 30mins east of Edmonton, is also Elk Island National Park - a self drive adventure where you can see the Plains Bison. The bison from this park are regularly used to reintroduce the species in other areas of North America.

What ever you plan on doing bring warm clothes rug up and enjoy this magical time of the year.

Olds és una petita comunitat agrícola situada a aproximadament una hora al nord de Calgary i a només dues hores a l’est del bell Parc Nacional de Banff.

El desembre serà un paisatge hivernal de camps nevats amb vistes distants de les Muntanyes Rocalloses. Pots posar a prova les teves habilitats en el patinatge sobre gel a les moltes pistes exteriors o calçar-te uns esquís de fons per fer una mica d’exercici a l’aire lliure. Si prefereixes una mica de calor, pots gaudir del jacuzzi, la sauna, el tobogan aquàtic o la piscina als centres aquàtics d’Olds o Didsbury. El d’Olds te amb un mural preciós, mentre que les parets del de Didsbury estan pintades per semblar una platja encantadora! A més, Olds també té una bolera de 10 pistes on podràs menjar i beure mentre jugues.

Si vols anar una mica més lluny, pots fer un viatge de dues hores fins a Canmore, el Parc Provincial de Kananaskis i/o Banff, i viure l’hivern a les muntanyes, aprofitant fantàstiques oportunitats per fer fotos i crear records inoblidables. Amb moltes estacions d’esquí a prop, pots llogar un snowboard o uns esquís (de fondo o alpins) i posar a prova les teves habilitats en muntanyes de nivell mundial.

Si el teu esperit aventurer (i temps) et porta més lluny (a 4 hores d'Olds, amb bones condicions de carretera) cap a les muntanyes, pots creuar la divisòria continental cap a la Colúmbia Britànica i en direcció a Golden, on t'espera una altra estació d'esquí!

Si tens curiositat pels animals que van habitar la Terra fa milions d’anys, pots fer un trajecte d’1 hora i 15 minuts fins a Drumheller i visitar el mundialment conegut Royal Tyrrell Museum, ple de fòssils impressionants i exposicions fascinants. A més, podràs admirar els badlands, un paisatge que sembla d’un altre planeta!

Si el fred et fa buscar activitats a cobert, pots fer un viatge de 2,5 hores cap al nord fins a Edmonton i explorar el que un cop va ser el centre comercial més gran del món: el West Edmonton Mall. Amb un parc aquàtic gegant, piscina d’onades, pista de gel, minigolf i un parc d'atraccions, podràs passar una jornada divertida i càlida sota un mateix sostre. A només 30 minuts a l’est d’Edmonton, també hi trobaràs l’Elk Island National Park, on podràs fer un recorregut amb cotxe per veure bisons de les Grans Planes. Els bisons d’aquest parc s’utilitzen sovint per reintroduir l’espècie en altres zones d’Amèrica del Nord.
