As many of you know, Bordeaux is known for its wine.
If you have some spare time, we highly recommend a day trip visiting the vineyards and tasting some of France's finest wines.
Saint-Émilion is the most famous area to visit. It has a little charming medieval village which is nice for a lunch in between visits and tastings. You can organise wine tastings and tours directly with vineyards. Some of these tours are free while some others charge a small fee. Alternatively there are a lot of tourism companies offering tours.
We recommend not driving so you can enjoy the wine!
You can stay in the region, book onto one of the organised tours or if you are a group interested organising your own tour you could rent a minivan & driver for the day.
Dune du Pilat is a must if you are up for the challenge.
It is the tallest sand dune in Europe located in the Arcachon bay. It is a feat to climb this dune especially on a hot day, however, you will be rewarded with amazing views looking out at the Bassin d'Arcachon, Banc d'Arguin and beautiful pine forests (which sadly suffered some damage due to the forest fires in Summer 2022).
We recommend packing some water for the climb and a towel. There is paid parking available.
If you would like to treat yourself to a lovely cocktail, tapas or dinner while taking in the beautiful views of the Dune de Pilat and the Bassin d'Arcachon, we recommend you visit La Coorniche. It is a beautiful restaurant located within a hotel nestled on the side of the Dune de Pilat.
It is necessary to make a reservation especially if you want to go when the sun sets, which is magical.
