Q + A

Is it safe to Travel to Colombia?

Colombia is generally a safe country to travel in. Here are some “pro-tips” for a smoother trip around Colombia: 1) Ask in advance for the price of items so that you are not sticker shocked. Pro tip: most times, prices are negotiable in the markets. 2) Credit cards work well, for the most part AMEX and Visa is accepted in most establishments. 3) Remember to carry cash (e.g. to pay taxis or tolls). In Colombia, the COP (Colombian Peso) is used as currency. 4) Be mindful of surroundings and avoid walking with your phone out. 5) Consider booking tours in advance or via the hotel. 6) If your cellphone plan does not include international service, purchase a prepaid SIM card for data (cheaper than international roaming and available in the airport and kiosks). 7) Leave your valuables in the hotel safe. 8) Always keep your bags and purses in sight. 9) Order taxis at the designated areas at the airport, at your hotel or via Uber. Do not hail your own cab off the street. 10) The Colombian version of Ubereats is Rappi. Download the app if you’d like anything (literally anything) delivered to your door 11) You can reach the police on 113.

Customs at Bogota Airport

It is a mandatory requirement for all travelers entering Colombia to obtain a Check-MIG Colombia form. The Check MIG form is Colombia’s version of a health declaration form, which requires all visitors to share their health status with the Colombian authorities. It takes about 2 minutes to fill out, your airline will require you to fill it out before you board and you will receive a copy via e-mail. Upon arriving you’ll be shuffled to the customs line which can take anywhere from 30 mins to 2 hrs. depending on the air traffic. The customs officer will view your CheckMIG form, make sure to have it handy! When you share your passports with customs, you can share that you are going to a wedding (“Boda” in Spanish) in Villa de Leyva.

Where should I stay in Bogota?

The best areas to stay in Bogotá are Usaquén or between Calle 80 and Calle 100. We've recommended several hotels near Parque 93, which is closest to the bars and restaurants—no need for Ubers.

What is the dress code for the wedding?

The dress code is Formal. We ask guests to wear classic, polished attire. -Men: Suit with a tie is required (no bow ties or tuxedos). -Women: Formal dresses, gowns, or elegant jumpsuits. Please note: -No sneakers or overly casual footwear. -No green or sage green shades, as these are part of the wedding party colors.

Are kids welcome?

The little ones are near and dear to our heart. Although our ceremony and reception are not kid friendly.

Can I bring a plus 1?

Due to limited space, we are only able to accommodate guests formally invited on your wedding invitation. If you have a plus one, it will be listed on your wedding invite and if you have any doubts check in with the groom or bride. Thank you for understanding!

Where is the venue located?

Our wedding will take place in the beautiful town of Villa de Leyva, about three hours outside of Bogotá. The best way to get there is to fly into Bogotá and either join the group bus provided by the bride and groom or arrange your own private transport. If you choose to ride with us, we kindly welcome contributions to help cover transportation costs. Please make sure you let us know in your RSVP if you will be riding in the bus we will be providing!

Is the Venue indoors or outdoors?

Most of our venues will have an indoor / outdoor concept. As always there is a chance of rain but our wedding planner will be prepared in that event!

How's the weather in Villa de Leyva?

Temperature in Villa de Leyva is around 25°C during the day and 13°C at night. We recommend guests bring a jacket or sweater for the evening.

How do I make reservations or call anyone while in Colombia?

Communicating with your hotel, a restaurant, and a vendor is so simple! Colombia loves WhatApp, and you can download the app and text them. Usually, the business has an account and will take your text / call. We encourage you to make reservations at your favorite spots this way, too. Our best advice for booking hotels is to check the difference in prices directly with the business by contacting them via WhatsApp, or through your best booking option such as Booking.com or Expedia.

Where can I do my hair and makeup?

We have provided a list of hair and make-up artists. Please check the Travel section.
