It all began at Olmsted 156, where creativity met innovation-quite literally. I was the art teacher, always surrounded by paint, color, imagination, and covered in clay. He was the green technology and engineering teacher, a brilliant mind with a toolbox in one hand and a drumstick in the other.

Our rooms were moved next door to each other, and what started as quick hallway hellos turned into helpful visits to fix leaky sinks, wobbly tables, and the occasional rogue art cart. Word had it he was an incredible drummer-and as someone who lives and breathes the arts, I couldn't help but be intrigued.

There was just one catch: he was 61, and I was 40. I teased him that he was far too old for me-but he only smiled and kept showing up, with kindness, wit, and steady friendship. Over time, that friendship grew into something neither of us expected, but both of us now cherish deeply.

Love doesn't follow rules. It just finds the right rhythm-and somehow, we are always in tune.
