It was 2018, and I was on my senior trip with my mom in New York City. We were in the JFK Airport waiting to get on our flight back to New Orleans when we noticed a group of people at our gate that also happened to be from Mississippi. This was a group of high schoolers that had just returned from a mission trip. Zane was one of them. My mom and I chatted with a few of them (one of these few being Zane) for a little while until it was time to board our flight. We said our goodbyes, and I never thought anything of it. That was until, in 2022, I was at House Church for the final time for the semester, and this guy comes up to me and says "I think I met you in an airport 4 years ago." Obviously, that guy was Zane. It turns out that each of us had gone off to college to play our respective sports, decided to leave where we were, and somehow both ended up at Southern Miss (a place neither of us thought we would be). And not only that, but we were also in the same House Church out of the multiple ones in our area for just one of the many churches in Hattiesburg. How amazing is that! We even had quite a few mutual friends, but we never met (again) until that very moment. A few days later...our group of friends had this group chat called "Grata" (if you know, you know), and I decided to see if anyone would want to grab dinner on a Saturday night...little did I know that Zane would be the only person to respond (which I think was slightly intentional). And after begging my now Matron of Honor, Macie, to come with me, so it wouldn't just be the two of us, we went to Walk-Ons and had a great time. We ended up spending the whole next day together meeting up at church, then going to lunch, studying for finals, and we even ended up spontaneously going to the movies at 10:00 pm. The more time we spent together, the more I knew Zane was the one. Fast forward about a year and a half later, and on the day before my final game on the Southern Miss soccer field, he gets down on one knee and proposes to me. It was most definitely the easiest yes ever. All I can say is the will of God is written all over our story. To meet someone in an airport over 1,000 miles away from home, and then 4 years later run into that person again...nothing can explain that except that God knew what He was doing! Zane is by far the greatest human I have ever met (no offense to anyone reading this, but he is). The way he loves The Lord and encourages me to chase after Jesus everyday gives me so much joy. He loves in the exact way that God calls us to in 1 Corinthians 13. Our story is only just beginning, and I can't wait to celebrate our love with all of our favorite people on December 21, 2024!
God works in amazing ways. It was 2018, and I had just left a mission trip that I went on with Venture Church to the Dominican Republic. We get to our terminal in the New York airport and got settled for our trip back to New Orleans. All of the sudden I caught a glimpse of the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. We began making conversation as a group but nothing more. She mentioned she was from Flowood, but I figured I would never see her again because of her attending school at the University of Alabama - Birmingham the following fall for soccer. I went on with my life; as did she. Little did I know that God would lead her back to Hattiesburg for soccer. I was going to Haley and Nick Clark's house for weekly house church when I noticed someone I thought I recognized. It was her. The beautiful girl from the airport was in my house church. I went home that night and told my roommate at the time, Drake Pace, the story and told him that I had to talk to her. He encouraged me to approach her the next week. I waited patiently until the next week and grew the courage to talk to her. That was our first encounter since the airport in 2018. From that day at house church until present, I have loved Tay Collum more than I have ever loved anyone. To love Tay Collum is to love our Lord and Savior. She is the light of my world, and I would not be half the man I am without her. She has been with me every step throughout my transition into adulthood, and I cannot wait to spend every step of our lives together. I am counting down the days until December 21st. God has blessed the both of us so dearly, and I think we can credit that to Tay and her overwhelming faith in our Lord and Savior. One of my favorite attributes about my fiance is that she is the hardest worker I have ever met. She inspires me to work as hard as I can every single day. I could go on and on about how she makes a positive impact on my life, but I will just let everyone see the love I have for her on 12/21/2024.
