This is a special place to us and we hope you're able to spend a few days on the island to explore, relax, and enjoy the wedding festivities. Our Wedding

Taylor and Evan’s story started about two years ago.&nbsp;As Taylor was swiping on Hinge, she came across a handsome guy who loved the San Juan Islands and had a sailboat. She clicked the “heart button” and Evan quickly responded. After chatting back and forth for a few days, Evan asked Taylor about one of her friends that he saw in one of her photos. He asked… “How do you know Mollie?” (one of Taylor’s bridesmaids). Taylor responded back with the same question, “How do you know Mollie?” Mollie is one of Taylor’s childhood best friends. It turns out that during Evan’s time living in New York, he became friends with several people that he met at a UW Husky bar. A few of those people are friends that Taylor grew up with. Taylor, of course, immediately called Mollie to ask if she should go on a date with Evan. Mollie had great things to say about Evan. Taylor and Evan met for drinks in Greenlake a few days later.&nbsp;&nbsp; After a few drinks, Taylor and Evan walked around Greenlake and talked for hours. The next year was full of many more walks around Greenlake, getting to know each other’s families and friends, trips to Lopez Island, a few friends’ weddings, Taylor getting back into skiing, and even a trip to Morocco and Spain.&nbsp; In March of 2024 Taylor was eager to go up to Lopez Island to visit Evan’s parents. They had been busy and hadn’t seen them in a while. As Taylor was coordinating the visit with Evan’s Mom, Evan was secretly planning a surprise with Taylor’s sister, Sydney. After a few “field trips” to the Jewelry shop with Sydney, Evan purchased a ring right before their trip to Lopez.&nbsp; The morning of the proposal, Taylor noticed Evan pacing around the living room. She just figured he was stressed about a big work presentation. After Taylor and Evan finished work, he did anything he could to distract her; he took her on a walk along Shark Reef, to look at the new pickleball courts, and even to the grocery store. After returning to the house, Evan asked Taylor to come outside to look at the water.&nbsp;She tried to go inside a few times because it was so cold. Evan finally convinced Taylor to walk out to the point where he surprised her with a proposal! The rest is history!!&nbsp; Taylor and Evan are so excited to be getting married on Lopez Island just a few feet from where they got engaged. They feel so lucky for all the support throughout their lives from their parents, family and friends and can’t wait to celebrate with their loved ones as they start the next chapter of their journey together!

Getting to Lopez Island

The most popular way to access Lopez Island is to ride the Washington State Ferry from Anacortes, Washington. An easy, scenic 30-minute ride, it's the first island stop on the way to the San Juan archipelago. Ferry departures vary, so please purchase your tickets in advance! We also highly recommend staying overnight on Friday and Saturday; the ferries are very busy in the summer months. Ferry Reservations/Schedule –&nbsp;1-800-84-FERRY or purchase online at&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wsdot.com/ferries/schedule/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">https://www.wsdot.com/ferries/schedule/</a>- Mark your calendars: ferry reservations open up at 6am two months, two weeks, and then finally two days before departure date. *If you do book a ferry reservation, please make sure to arrive at least 30 mins ahead of your ferry reservation. CAR/MOTORCYCLE - Drive on, drive off. Botta bing, botta boom. BIKE - Bicycles are guaranteed to load on ferries so it’s a great way to overcome ferry waits and anxieties. Ride your own bicycle or book ahead with <a href="https://villagecycles.net/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Village Cycles</a> to have a bicycle waiting for you at the ferry landing or delivered to your Lopez Island lodging location. From the ferry landing, most wedding festivities are 10 - 15 minutes by bike. WALK - For the minimalist who chooses to travel light and on foot, Lopez Island Taxi and Tours offer rides around the island. If staying at the Lopez Islander Resort, they offer&nbsp;free parking&nbsp;on the Anacortes side and a&nbsp;complimentary shuttle&nbsp;once on the island to the resort.&nbsp;It’s a less expensive and easy way to travel.&nbsp;Call on your travel day to notify us (360-468-2233).&nbsp;Park at Billy Rays restaurant parking lot on the right side of the hill above the ferry terminal.&nbsp;Fill out an envelope with your name and stay dates and place in drop box.&nbsp;Walk down the hill to the terminal and board.&nbsp;There is a waiting area with benches.&nbsp;The Islander shuttle will pick you up when the ferry arrives in Lopez.&nbsp;The shuttle service also includes transportation back to the ferry upon your departure. AIRPLANE - Lopez Island has a small public airport with regularly scheduled and charter flights from Seattle and Bellingham. Reservations can be made thru <a href="http://sanjuanairlines.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">San Juan Airlines</a> and <a href="https://kenmoreair.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kenmore Airlines</a>.&nbsp;Schedules and availability are always changing.&nbsp; BOAT - Lopez Island has 1 public marina at the Lopez Islander Resort in Fisherman bay and various moorage options at state and county parks. <a href="https://www.outerislandx.com/watertaxi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Outerisland Excursion</a> also operate water taxis between the islands.

The Islander Resort will be the main location for lodging and where our Welcome Party will take place. We have reserved a block of rooms for your convenience. To book, please call the front desk at (360)468-2233 and reference the Conway Sorensen wedding before June 24, 2025. The resort also provides a small shuttle, available to transport guests to and from the wedding festivities.

Cornhole Tournament Details

The originally planned Saturday morning pickleball tournament has now become a cornhole tournament. We hope to see you there! Location:The Cornhole Tournament&nbsp;will be located (206 Weeks Road, Lopez Island) . We will kick off the tournament at 9:30AM on Saturday morning. Teams and match ups will be selected by our commissioner&nbsp;Marcus&nbsp;Flynn. Details:- Water will be provided- If you would like to consume beverages outside of water, please bring those&nbsp;- The tournament will be an 80’s theme so feel free to dress up if you are feeling festive.- The winning team will win some beautiful trophies and all the bragging rights to commemorate their big win!

Wedding Ceremony Details

Our ceremony will take place outside at Evan's parents' home 352 Weeks Point Way at 4:00pm. Guests are encouraged to arrive a few minutes early to enjoy a beverage and the view. Street parking at the Sorensen residence is limited. If you are able, we request you either:1. Park at the <a href="https://www.lopezcenter.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Lopez Center for Community and the Arts</a> and walk the 8 minutes to the ceremony. There is plenty of space for all.2. Shuttle from the <a href="https://lopezfun.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Lopez Islander Resort</a>3. <a href="https://villagecycles.net/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bike</a> Following the ceremony, we'd love to invite guests to walk the 8 minutes to the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts (204 Village Road) for our reception.

Wedding Reception Details

Our reception will take place outside the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts, immediately following the ceremony around 4:30pm. Please join us for dinner, dancing, and merriment! After the reception, guests are welcome to:1. Shuttle to the Lopez Islander Resort2. Drive3. Bike Cars can be left at the Lopez Center for Community and the Arts overnight and picked up Sunday morning.

Transportation & "Taxi's" 

ShuttleFor those of you staying at The Islander they do have a free resort shuttle that can pick you up and drop you off at the ferry landing for arrival and departure. The shuttle and driver is also available at $5 per mile, per van load (10 guests max) during regular business hours or $10 per mile after 10pm. To utilize the shuttle, simply call or visit the front desk and request a ride. For reference the Village where the reception will be held is just over 1 mile from the Islander a 20-30min walk. "Taxi's"We will have 3 drivers for those who can't or don't want to drive to or from the events. For the Welcome Party at the Islander Resort (main hotel) the drivers will be available from 4:30-8:30PM on Friday. For the Reception we will have the drivers available from 3:00-11:00PM on Saturday. If you do need them please call or text Larissa Mansfield at 206-383-6611 during those hours, she will be functioning as 'dispatch'. Rides into and from the Village can be scheduled in advance during those times for those who may not want to drive to and from the events. Drivers will be available during the events if anyone wants or needs to leave the events sooner. Please be patient with the drivers this is not their regular job, these are locals who were willing to help out! You do not need to pay for the rides since they are being compensated but I'm sure they would appreciate a tip if all goes well!

Nature Walks & Hikes

An easy one-mile trail sets out through a thick forest carpeted in salal. Pass a handful of old firs and after a short descent, reach the rocky shoreline. Turn south and walk on ledges along Cattle Pass, its strong currents separating Lopez from San Juan Island. Evan used this hike as a stall tactic before the proposal and Taylor naively thought I might propose on a bench at the end of the trail. Continue along a rocky and grassy bluff framed by windblown shore pines and return in a loop. Seek a sunny sitting spot and enjoy the scenery. Across the channel, Mount Finlayson rises above the golden lawns of Cattle Point. Dallas Mountain, highest point on San Juan Island, peeks out just to the northwest. Look south to the Olympics, hovering above the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and east to Iceberg Point. Directly in front of you in the channel are Deadman Island and a series of reefs and offshore rocks. At low tide, these areas teem with seals.

Shark Reef

One of the more scenic spots on the Island especially on a clear day. Hike through native prairie grasses atop dramatic coastal bluffs taking in stunning views of the Olympic Mountains across the sparkling waters of the Strait of Juan de Fuca.&nbsp;Follow it skirting wind-contorted firs and pines; or take a parallel path closer to water’s edge and rounding rocky bluffs. Either way leads to Iceberg Point, a cliffy promontory housing a navigational beacon.&nbsp;For present-day glaciers, look northeast across Outer Bay to Mount Baker and south across the strait to glacier-covered Mount Rainier and the snowy Olympics. Directly west are the golden slopes of Mount Finlayson and Cattle Point on San Juan Island.

Iceberg Point

Watmough&nbsp;is a secluded cove with a rocky beach, a 5-minute flat walk from the parking lot. It’s also the jumping off spot to&nbsp;Point Colville,&nbsp;the only hike with meaningful elevation on the island at a grand (almost) 500ft. The trail can be especially steep at times which Taylor loved. There's also a good rope swing at the top. These hikes are located at the southern end of Lopez Island. They comprise Watmough Bay Preserve (San Juan Land Bank Preserve) and Chadwick Hill/Point Colville (San Juan Islands National Monument.) Wat

Watmough Bay, Chadwick Hill & Point Colville

This is probably the best "beach" on the island at least by the standard of San Juan Island beaches. Full of driftwood and great for making forts as a kid. This unique park features a rare sand spit enclosed by a saltwater lagoon and is a short walk downhill from the parking lot.

Spencer Spit State Park

Fisherman Bay Preserve is a 29-acre property that includes open meadows, woodlands, wetlands, and approximately 1 mile of shoreline. Fun fact Evan actually used to paint ball here before it became a park and may have hit the side of a yacht coming into the bay. This sits right across the water from his parents house and the site of the wedding ceremony. Feel free to swim to it if you're feeling brave. On the way to the preserve, you'll pass Otis Perkins Day Park. Stop here for even more shoreline and beach to explore. Pass through an old orchard, stone ruins of a Lopez homestead, and through meadows of wildflowers.

Rentals & Tours

Full disclosure I have never tried this but always wanted to. They will let you climb 200 ft old growth trees at sunset with great views of the surrounding islands. They also offer rock climbing if you prefer. Been meaning to give this a try for too long now so if you do go tell us how it is!

There really isnt a better way to get around the island than a bike. Locals give a wide berth to cyclists when passing and Lopez is relatively flat by the standards of the other islands. If you want to walk on the ferry and rent a bike its a great way to get around and they offer ebikes as well as the old human powered ones.

Village Cycles

Conveniently located across the street from the Islander hotel they rent both bikes and kayaks. Fisherman Bay is pretty protected and has plenty of nearby places to paddle to including Fisherman Bay Preserve &amp; Otis Perkins listed above. Just be wary of the channel when the tide is coming in (or out) if you want to leave the bay. It can get moving and making coming or going a bit challenging. Food & Drink

The Galley was the locals bar of choice for a long time but closed and after a long wait it has finally reopened. It now features Setsunai which was previously its own very small but very good ramen spot. Taylor and I just had a chance to go and it might be my new favorite spot on the island. The people who have been know this place punches well above its weight. The owner and chef of Setsunai, Josh, serves up Asian inspired dishes -ramen, udon, dumplings and many rotating items depending on the season. Ingredients are sourced from local small scale farms and they love to pickle and ferment their own veggies (awesome kimchi!) and smoke their own meats. Noodles and dumplings are always made fresh,.

The Galley Restaurant and Lounge w/Setsunai

This is the locals coffee shop conveniently located but as with many things on Lopez in the summer can often have a long wait. If the line does look daunting there is Lopez Grind across the street just a bit to the east.

Isabel's Espresso

This is the one true fine dining experience on the island, they've been featured in the New York Times and its not hard to understand why. Most of the ingredients come directly from the island whether it is clams and mussels harvested by owner and chef Nick Coffey, or another local farm nearby, dishes are unique, inventive, and delicious. Nick's wife, Nova, is a lovely host. This is one of the more expensive places on the island but if you enjoy this type of dining its worth a reservation.

Ursa Minor

Vita's offers a great gourmet deli (especially the reuben) often has wood fire pizzas and a great wine selection. Their menu often changes with the season, and many ingredients come from local farms around the island. They also have a great outdoor sitting area that occasionally hosts concerts.

Vita's Wildly Delicious

Formerly Holly Bs bakery, Fine Mess ahs taken over this classic that had been around for over 40 years and is maintaining the spirit of the original. They serve a variety of baked goods from sweet (almond butter horn) to savory. A great place to grab a quick bite in the morning.

Fine Mess Bakery

The only store on the south end of the island with a small grocery and a cafe that has a great smash burger. If you want to go on a longer bike ride this a great place to stop on your way to Iceberg point or just have it be the destination.

Islandale/Southender

Some of the best views for dining on the island with a great outdoor deck or a cozy interior and a fairly diverse menu that probably has something for everyone.

Haven Kitchen & Bar

Typical NW fare and pub grub in a casual setting on the waterfront with a fantastic view of Fishman Bay and the marina. Also serving breakfast and lunch, the food is good - go for the Fish and Chips not a bad place to just stop for a drink on the patio. This is also the location of the welcome party on Friday.

The island's taco truck, great place to grab a quick and very delicious Mexican lunch, sourcing local ingredients. They are always are usually parked outside Isabel's Espresso in the village but do pop up at farmers market in the village on Saturdays.

El Taco ’Bout It

Fresh pizza was shockingly hard to get on Lopez until they popped up. Located in the heart of the village next to Paper Scissors on the rock this a great spot to grab a pizza to go or better yet call in ahead.

APIZZAPIE

A very colorfully painted poutine food truck that is hard to miss when you see it. Often found at whatever local event is going on but most commonly the Saturday farmers market. They serve a variety of creative takes on the Canadian classic.

Poutine Your Mouth

Open every Saturday in the summer from 10-2 this is a great place to grab a bite to eat, grab some fresh berries or pickles and admire the various arts and crafts. I also have to plug Lydia's Ceramics where I seem to always end up walking away with a new mug.

Lopez Island Farmers' Market

Serving locally sourced, seasonal, scratch made, traditional Pacific Northwest comfort food with an international fusion, French and Mediterranean influences from the field, land and sea.

Blue Heron Bistro

Hands down some of the best bread I've ever had, just add butter. Cant recommend the "Miche" rustic bread enough but it goes very quickly. They have quickly become an institution on the island and are a little obsessed with the grains that they use and place a strong emphasis on being sustainable and environmentally friendly. Make sure to check their hours on the website listed. You can either show up and see what they have available or put in pre order. The also typically have a stand at the farmers market on Saturday but fair warning it goes fast.
