Michael and Taylor met at UMD and remained friends throughout their time in college. After college, Michael moved to the Twin Cities and Taylor remained in Duluth.

Taylor and Michael reconnected at a friend's wedding on December 10th. This sparked romantic feelings for both of them and led to them spending some more time together.

After sharing that they had feelings for each other, Michael asked out Taylor. Their first date was at IKEA to get Swedish meatballs. They decided to start dating shortly after.

While on a trip to Canada, Taylor and Michael took a day trip along the western shore of Vancouver Island. After the first couple of stops, Michael suggested that they stop at a lighthouse nearby. It was there that Michael shared how much he loves Taylor and how he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. Upon asking her to marry him, Taylor responded with "Yes! Of course I will!"
