Our Story

In the summer of 2023, Tommy was off traveling the country running baseball tournaments and showcases for Best In The US. While on a last minute trip to Duke University in Durham, NC his flight got delayed until 3am, he lost his luggage, and missed his rental car pick up. Upon arriving to the baseball stadium at 6:45am via Uber, co-worker Ashley pointed out a beautiful blonde standing at the gate to the ballpark with a baseball player. At the time Tommy was running on only two hours of sleep and was wearing his last set of clean clothes, but once he got closer, he realized she was indeed drop dead gorgeous. While walking past with a subtle good morning, Tommy noticed Taylor wearing a St. Joe's women's soccer hat, and her younger cousin, Tyler Ryan was posted on the BUSS twitter account (he's a stud baseball player). Tommy thought that Tyler was Taylor's brother (luckily they share the same last name), so he figured her last name was Ryan. Knowing her last name and that she played soccer at Saint Joseph's University, Tommy whipped out his phone and he did a little research, (stalking) and found Taylor on the SJU soccer roster from 2018. It turns out that she was a stud soccer player and lived just outside of Philadelphia in a town called Medford, NJ. As fate would have it, Taylor was only there at Duke University by chance. Her Aunt Amber and Uncle Steve asked her to take her younger cousin, Tyler to the weekend baseball showcase because they couldn't make it with their work schedules. Tyler wasn't even playing with his actual baseball team that weekend, he was asked to be a guest player for another team. The weekend continued with Taylor and her cousin Tyler beating Tommy to the ballpark again on day 2 (it depends who you ask- Taylor will say Tommy was late and Tommy will say Taylor was early). Tommy and Taylor exchanged a couple of hellos and good mornings and had a brief conversation while Tyler bought a tournament shirt. On Sunday, Tommy drove to the site of Tyler's last game of the tournament in hopes of finally asking Taylor to get dinner the following weekend in Philadelphia while he was there for work. To his dismay, Taylor and Tyler had to leave early to catch their early afternoon flight. After spending a couple of days disappointed, and thinking that he had missed his chance, Tommy slid into Taylor's DMs on Instagram and asked her to dinner that coming weekend in Philadelphia. To Tommy's surprise Taylor not only responded, but she said yes to a date! From there, we texted nonstop and got to know more about each other.

How We Met

It should come to no surprise to many of you, that Tommy was late. Work did not get out when Tommy had thought and there was Friday rush hour traffic- Tommy thought that he had for sure missed his chance. However, Taylor worked with Tommy to not only make the time change work, but she also drove closer to where he was staying so that we could have more time to spend together. We ended up going to a bar called Landmark which just happens to be located directly across the street from St. Joseph's where Taylor went to college. Even if we tried we couldn't set the scene of our first date... lets just say it wasn't the best environment for us to have quality conversation. With the music blaring and the two of us screaming answers back and forth, Tommy knew that he had to come up with a different plan. Tommy decided to ask her if she'd like to walk around campus, and for her to show him where she spent four years of her life (and for us to be able to hold a conversation in reasonable volume). It was a great success and we walked around for what felt like hours. It was really great getting to spend time together and we were both bummed the night was over. After saying our goodbyes we left the night hoping to see each other again. Sadly, Tommy was heading back home to Iowa Sunday morning, and they would be about 1,100 miles apart.

Our First Date

While Tommy headed on back to Iowa to work the Iowa State Fair, the endless texting turned to nightly Facetimes. It didn't take us very long to miss one another and to concoct a plan to spend more time together. Only a couple of days into the Iowa State Fair, a flight was booked, and Tommy would be flying to New Jersey for Labor Day weekend. We were so excited to spend the entire weekend together in Taylor's home state! There was so much for us to look forward to! The Labor day Trip was filled with so much laughter and joy. We ate at all of Taylor's favorite places, had a fun date night with axe throwing (Taylor kicked Tommy's butt of course), and we had a night out on the boardwalk in Ocean City where we met up with Taylor's best friend, Paige and her husband, Marc. Paige and Marc really loved Tommy. They thought he was personable, kind, funny, handsome, and they thought he was really into Taylor... so Tommy passed the best friend test with flying colors. Before the weekend was over, while still in Ocean City, we made it official- Tommy asked Taylor to be his girlfriend and the rest is history! We were on cloud 9, but we knew the weekend would soon come to an end. This was the start of our numerous trips back and forth and lovely, lovely long distance. After a lot of hugs and tears, Tommy flew back to Nashville and drove to his apartment in Murray, KY where he was starting his new new job as an assistant baseball coach at Murray State.

Grand Ole Opry

A major highlight of Nashville. The Grand Ole Opry is the iconic home of country music! Here you can experience a live show multiple nights each week, showcasing performances from country legends and emerging country stars. If you can't catch a show, they also offer tours!

Ryman Auditorium

This is original site of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974. You can take a tour or see country stars perform on stage.

Country Music Hall Of Fame

Learn more about the best music genre (well at least in Taylor and Tommy's opinion) at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. It is located on Music Row in downtown Nashville.

The Johnny Cash Museum

Fans of Johnny Cash should definitely visit the Johnny Cash Museum, which boasts the most extensive collection of his artifacts and memorabilia anywhere. There's also a bar and restaurant to enjoy!

The Gulch

One of Taylor's favorite areas in Nashville. It's a really hip town with lots of yummy foods, great shops, famous murals (the famous butterfly wing mural is located here), and fun activities (Puttshack, workout classes, ride electric scooters (less crowded and a good spot to ride around). Check out this area if you want to take a break from the Broadway crowds!

Walk The John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge

The Bridge connects downtown&nbsp;Nashville to the more residential suburbs of East&nbsp;Nashville. You can also see Nissan Stadium (home of the Tennessee Titans) as it is located right over the Bridge. There is a bar called ACME Feed and Seed which is located right at the end of Broadway and it has a great view of the Bridge, Cumberland River, and Nissan Stadium. Check it out if you have time!

Hattie B's

Taylor's absolute favorite food in Nashville. Delicious fried and hot chicken spot. The meals come with side dishes and they are to die for. Trust us... it's a must try while you are here. They have several different restaurants in the Nashville area. Their most popular restaurant is located right on Broadway (very close to the Assembly Food Hall and The Bridgestone Arena which is home to the Nashville Predators).

Assembly Food Hall

Sure, Nashville is known for it's country music, but it is also known for its delicious food. At Assembly Food Hall, they have over 30 eateries and bars, live music, and the largest rooftop patio in Nashville. It's also located right off of Broadway! Notable Food Options:-Cheese Lab: Gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches-Desano Pizzeria: hand-crafted Neapolitan pizzas (cooked in wood fire ovens)-Dock Local: Crab, lobster, and shrimp-Honeyfire Barbecue Co: BBQ Joint-Prince's Hot Chicken: Famous fried chicken joint-Sixty Vines: Charcuterie boards, pizzas, and pastas paired with wine-Steam Boys: Authentic Chinese- bao, dumplings, and noodles-The Philly Special: The best Philly cheesesteaks outside of Philly (Taylor has tried and can confirm they are good. Also, shoutout to our Philly/NJ people... Go Birds!) There are also a lot of sweets you can try in the food hall: crepes, Belgian waffles, edible cookie dough, an ice cream creamery with bougie milkshakes, shaved ice, cotton candy, etc. Near the Assembly Food Hall you can find some cute shops and boutiques to browse through!
