This is the fabric that we will use for the aso ebi. You can purchase this fabric and we will be sure to hand you yours before the ceremony.

The aso ebi can be worn in many ways. Commonly, women will use it for their gele and men will use it for the fila. Women also often use it for the ipele. You may see the same fabric used for both the gele and the ipele. Women sometimes make their iro and/or buba from the fabric.

People may also use the fabric to tailor any style of dress/outfit they like.

You absolutely do not have to purchase the fabric. It is also very common and very appropriate to wear any outfit that incorporates one or both of the two colors (marigold or chocolate in this case). I prefer the gold to brown tones if you don't know which to choose.

Importantly, you may also wear whatever you please. You will see guests, Nigerian and otherwise, wearing colors that have nothing to do with the aso ebi. This is fine and welcome! Don't stress too much about any of this.

The "Mothers" and "Fathers" (parents, aunts, uncles, any older close family members) of the bride's family also typically wear a white outfit and use the chosen fabric for the accents (gele, ipele, fila). You can actually do the same! It is more than ok to wear white to the traditional Nigerian ceremony.
