It was a hot july afternoon and Teresa had decided to walk to the Harris Teeter for a few groceries which was about a mile away. She was walking home through the parking lot back to the roadside when a clean Acura MDX pulled up beside her and asked if she needed a ride. She told him she was fine and no thank you. But he was persistent, he asked her where she was going? She replied it was just the next street up on Dynasty Dr. He eagerly responded that is the direction I am going. Are you sure I cannot drop you off? She finally looked over to see a handom man in a blue scubs outfit. He looked harmless and friendly and she decided to trust his generous offer. She replied "Please dont kill me" and opened the door to get into the car. He turned the music up and asked if Teresa had heard this song before. It was Scrillix Promises which she had not heard before. They both listened to the music as it picked up into the techno part. The conversation was short and sweet and ended at the top of the coldasac. Teresa hopped out of the car and walked down the hill to her house only looking back to see if he was turning. Nicander drove away without asking anything more. No names were exchanged, no phone numbers, it was goodbye strangers. For now...

The First Ride

After working a full week and a half nonstop of twelve hour days, Nicander was finally able to get a four day block of time off. He planned to start his mini vacation that night after work and went to Woody's Bar and Grill to have a beer and relax.Teresa was home on a Sunday evening after visiting with her family, she was reading her book and decided that it might be more interesting to go read in a more public area. She had a few friends working nearby at Woody's and decided to go visit them and read there. Teresa was sitting at the bar near the waitress station chatting with the bartender ladies when they were free and reading while they were busy. Nicander came over and ordered a beer from right behind her. He sat down next to Teresa as they were pouring his drink and asked her "What are you reading"? Teresa's response was "That is my least favorite question". He seemed surprised that she had answered in this manner and apologized. He opened his indie magazine and began to read it. He pointed to the coming soon singers and bands and asked "Do I liked Kate Nash", Teresa actually did like Kate Nash but tried not to get to excited about Nicander talking to her. He asked a few more questions and then an older gentleman of the name of Matt came over and started talking to Nicander and Teresa about his college days. After over an hour of talking Matt eventually asked Teresa what she did for a living and she replied "I am in software contracting" This comment all of a sudden sparked Nicander's memory of their first ride together. He turned to Teresa and asked "Are you the one I gave a ride him that time?" Teresa had to turn her head to stop herself from showing how big her smile was. She turned back to answer "yes" and their eyes met and locked. Nicander blushed and looked away and a moment later turned and asked "Would you like to go with me to The Ale House". Teresa smiled and said sure lets go. They left together and have been inseperable since.

Love stayed away for years. and when it finally appeared I barely recognized it. It smelled different now. Had darker eyes. Love came with freckles I didn't recognize. New marks. A softer voice. And now love makes fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies. But love will probably finish most of them for a midnight snack. Love is a terrible driver. But a great navigator. Love knows where its going it just might take a few hours longer than planned. Love is messier now. Love chews too loudly. Love leaves the cap off the tooth paste.
