Travel in UtrechtUtrecht is a medieval city in the center of the Netherlands. Due to the narrow streets and municipalities policies it is adviced not to come by car. Parking spaces are very limited in Utrecht center, and costs €7.84 per hour. That being said all locations in the center of Utrecht are within walking distance from each other. Furthermore Utrecht is the biking capital of the world with the best infrastructure and storage facilities for bike. If you stay longer it is adviceable to rent a bike to make the most of your stay in the city. When walking please be mindful of bikes at all times, they can come from any direction, and be mindful of 'red' roads as these are bike lanes. When biking try not to disturb the 'flow' of the bike traffic as this will not be appreciated by locals. For people with trouble walking or biking use public transport. Bus 2 stops directly in front of the venue. Alternatively use Uber or call UTC to order a taxi. It is not adviced to hail a taxi as they are known to overcharge, especially for short distance transportations. If you do insist on using a car make sure to think about where to park it, especially at your place of stay. Traffic wise be extra mindfull of bikes. They tend to not keep to the rules, so make sure to have 360degree vision. If you hit a bike you are at minimum 50% liable so please be careful! There is very limited parking space at the Cathedral, so you might have to park at some distance and after spending a long time looking for a parking space. The venue for the reception, dinner and party is not accessible for cars at all, but you can park at Q-Park la Vie which is quite close by (€4.00-€7.20 per hour).

Bus 2 stops at Catharijneconvent. This is your stop for the Sint Catharinakathedraal where the wedding ceremony will be.

UTC is the Utrechte Taxi Centrale. If you reserver in advance they offer reduced rates from Schiphol to Utrecht. In the city call them to send a taxi. Hailing a taxi in Utrecht has sadly become a bit of a gamble.

The central transportation hub of the Netherlands. You can take a train from all over the country to this station. Busses and trams can transport you through the city and it's surroundings.

Schiphol is the main airport into the Netherlands, and is well connected by train and taxi to Utrecht. Alternative airports are Rotterdam, Eindhoven and Weeze. You can book your UTC taxi in advance for a flat rate. Traintickets can be bought at the machines or you can use a debit card at the check-in poles.

Utrecht is a beatiful medieval city. The center is very walkable. Wonder around the canals, walk around the Singel or take bike rides through the surrounding countryside. I have listed our favorite places in and around the city.

City event Calendar

Finished in 1382 the Dom tower is the unique symbol of Utecht. At 112 meters height the Dom tower stands tall above the city, and can be seen from any direction. You can climb the 465 steps for a spectacular view.

Our favorite pub. This is where Theo proposed to Ariana.

De Postillon

Another favorite. Old brown cafe. Play a game, watch cycling or just marvel at all the nerdy attrributes around the pub.

Café Domkop

If you like Whisky, Geuze beers or other distilled liquors this is a great pub. It is tiny though, so don't come in big groups.

Café DeRat

Belgian beer cafe. Situated in an old church it is a favorite.

Belgisch Biercafé Olivier Utrecht

Winebar. The Netherlands is a beer country, but if you grow tired of beer, this winebar is run by an enthousiast and is very cute and 'gezellig'.

Wijnbar Kurk

Nice cocktails and surprising tapas. Situated on the old canal in Urecht the terrace will provide you with a stunning view!

Note that Dutch people traditionally eat around 18:00. When dining out this can be a bit later, but do not expect to be able to enter a restaurant at 22:00 and eat, as most kitchens will be closed by then. As long as you enter before 20:00 you should be ok.

Dutch style pancake restaurant situated on the old Rhine river just outside the city. The countryside here is absolutely beautiful.

Vegan, all fresh from their own fields or producers in the region. Everything tastes very fresh and different. Also visit the bakery and the fresh produce stalls around the corner.

Amelisweerd

Nice for breakfast and lunch. Also nice to read the daily paper, of which there is a selection on the reading table every day.
