Tia's story:

I was recruited by a new company to lead the FP&A team based in Burnsville, MN. I had just bought a house in Wichita, KS after moving back from Texas just 15 months before. I said I would only go if it were an AMAZING opportunity...turns out, it was an AMAZING opportunity. Just 2 months after closing on my home, I put it up for sale and headed to Minnesota where I knew a total of 2 people.

I arrived in Minnesota in late August, the summer was just coming to an end and fall was just starting. I found a beautiful home just 10 minutes from work, in the suburbs south of Minneapolis. Great location for a short commute, yes...not so great for a young single girl. Work became my focus. I spent the majority of my time learning as much about my new role and company as possible. This left little time to make friends and be social. At the point that winter set in. I was experiencing a true winter for the first time since I'd left Colorado 8 years before. I call this my hibernation period. From November - April, I rarely deviated from my routine of work and home.

In April, I met up with a friend for dinner. I had met her while working for Cessna back in 2007. She had moved to a few different states (and Canada) before moving to Minnesota the year before. We had a very nice time catching up and laughing over the on line dating mishaps I'd had since relocating. A few days after having dinner, I got an email from her asking if I'd be interested in meeting a friend of hers. She sent me two pictures of him and did a pretty good job of selling him as a "normal guy". She said he had a good job, loves Colorado, and has a dog.
