Getting Here

You have several options for arriving to Monterey! Whether you are flying or driving. Here is a little information to help you decide by what means you would like to take.

FLYING

Monterey Regional Airport

The most convenient airport to fly into for those traveling from outside of California is directly into Monterey Regional Airport (KMRY). The airport is very convenient, small, and easy to navigate. It is a 10-15 minute drive to most hotels in area with several rental car and taxi options.

Major Airports Within Driving Distance

Other airports that might have cheaper flight options are San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and San Jose International Airport (SJC). For these you would want to either rent a car or book the Monterey Airport Shuttle.(https://www.montereyairbus.com) The airport shuttle is about $40 per person.

The drive is about 2 hours from SFO and 1 hour 15 minutes from SJC. However, the drive to and from both of these airports can be beautiful and you can choose routes that go along California's famous Pacific Coast Highway, CA-1.

DRIVING

From the North

Whether you live in Northern California or are flying into one of the airports, Highway 1 is the main highway that goes straight through Monterey. However, there are several routes to take from San Francisco. You can take the 101 to 17 onto Highway 1 and drive through picturesque Santa Cruz and along the beautiful California coastline. Or you can stay on 101 and drive through the rolling hills of Central California stopping at local farm stands near Gilroy, the famous Garlic Capital of the World. From there take CA-156 to CA-1.

From the South

Should you be traveling from southern California you will be driving through some of the best wine regions in California. Once in Salinas, CA take CA-68 into Monterey.
