Sunken Gardens is a botanical paradise and St. Pete's oldest living museum, boasting over 50,000 exotic plants and birds. It's a unique attraction with a rich history, starting as a plumber's backyard project and evolving into a family-friendly tourist destination. Today, it offers a lush oasis with pathways, waterfalls, demonstration gardens, and a butterfly encounter. In 1902, George Turner, Sr., a plumber, purchased land and turned a sinkhole into a "sunken garden" by draining it.

He began growing tropical fruits and eventually expanded the garden with various plants and walkways, eventually opening it to the public as "Turner's Sunken Gardens" in 1936. Sunken Gardens became a popular roadside attraction, particularly from the late 1940s through the 1970s.
