When Tobias and Tabitha met back in the spring semester of '22, Tobias had returned from his study abroad semester in East Africa, Kenya, for the last week of finals week. But that was just the start, as it was only a "hello."From there, they went their separate ways for the summer. As they returned for pre-season in the Fall of 2022 (Tobias' Junior year and Tabitha's Sophomore year), they discovered they were townhouse neighbors. As the preseason goes on, a friendship builds and a true bond that is solely a true friendship.After a year of being neighbors, seeing each other every day on walks to class, games, trainings, etc., it comes to mid-April 2023 when Tobias confesses feelings before summer vacation. They prepare to go their separate ways for another summer, but before Tobias goes to the Adirondack mountains for his summer job, he makes it official on June 2, 2023, when they start to date. There, they spend their summer apart, only to be reunited for Tobias' sister's (Esther) wedding.As their relationship grows during Tobias' Senior Year and Tabitha's Junior Year, Tobias starts to realize how strongly he loves Tabitha when he goes on Mayterm to Ecuador and the Galápagos Islands, realizing he wants to experience those life-changing adventures with her in the future. This feeling only grows more when, during the Fall semester of Tabitha's Senior Year, Tobias goes to work in Czechia for 4 months. He can't stand another trip without her, and he starts planning. Tabitha is jealous of his adventures and makes a plan to go on the 2025 Mayterm to Costa Rica. Tobias sends a few emails and gets on that trip. When the itinerary comes out, the planning commences. Hours and hours of research and planning, and the pieces start falling into place.As Tobias returns on the night of Christmas Eve, the reality starts to set in while shopping for a ring begins. Eventually, after looking at hundreds of rings, the perfect one was found. As they prepared for their trip, Tobias made plans with friends for an epic proposal!Fast forward a few days to May 18, 2025. With the ring secured in a small pocket of his bag, Tobias gets off the bus at Volcán Barva in Costa Rica. Today was the day. With Tabitha feeling car sick, it gives Tobias time to find the spot. With all his planning, he was only able to secure a videographer and the volcano where it was going to happen, but nothing else. As he was finding birds with Tabitha, there was more than just birds being found; "the spot" was discovered. Many times, he asked how she was feeling before she said she felt fine, and he could execute his plan.Tobias runs off to find the videographer, but she had left on another hike, so he desperately finds someone else on the trip to help him out. As another group starts to show up, he gets nervous as they are walking to "his spot". The spot overlooks the dormant volcano's crater lake through gorgeous palm trees with Tanagers, Hummingbirds, Toucans, Oropendolas, and many more gorgeous avian friends flitting and gliding about to make the day more perfect. As Tobias pulls her to his spot, he points to an empty tree for her to find something in her binoculars as a drab brown bird flies in just to help him out. As she turns, he gets the ring and gets down on a knee. With a clutch videographer helping get the other people out of the way, she turns to see the perfect proposal.SHE SAID YES!We conclude this epic adventure of a day with a hike down to the lake with White Collared Manakins flying around (pictured below). When they get to the picturesque lake, it continues to rain for their swim. Nothing beats the calm of the lake with the rain dancing on the surface, creating little splashes of fireworks all around. Neotropic Cormorants landing in the lily pads, fish swimming freely around, and a newly engaged couple enjoys the refreshing rain and swims in the crater of Volcan Barva after a long day of hiking and birding.The rest of our story is still being written as the next chapter begins on May 16, 2026.

Abi is my big sister. She has always been there for me, watching out for me, especially in every moment I didn't want her to be there. We have handled lots of change together and can finally say we actually enjoy spending time together, contrary to our childhood. I am so grateful to have Abi standing by my side.

Even as my twin, we were never the same. But we were never apart. Up until my time in Africa, we were never separated for longer than a day or 2. Always creating laughs, Levi was truly the better half, no matter what I've said in the past. If you see him on May 16 without candy in his hand, ask him what is wrong and then get him more SourPatch Watermelon. Levi is my best friend, my brother, my twin, my Best Man. The epitome of a Best Man.

Aubrie and I met at Houghton on the XC team. Although she was a year older than me, we instantly connected. We spent countless hours chatting and breaking all the Covid rules together. Aubrie is a very kind person who genuinely cares about you.

From day 1, Bjorn has been a role model of what a man should be. From leadership to his moves on the dance floor, he has taught me how to act, lead, disciple, and boogie. A great man with great moves! Make sure you meet him on May 16 and check out what he's got on the dance floor!

Amanda is the first person I met at Houghton. Coach had connected us before I even set foot on the campus. Amanda showed me all the places to adventure around Houghton. Being a local, she knew all the cool spots, and being two years older had all the cool friends. I was blessed to stand by her at her wedding, and I can't wait for her to do the same for me.

A true brother from another mother. Micah has been my number 1 competitor in sports. From 1 on 1 in any sport with Levi pulling the real weight as all time QB or goalie. Micah has pushed me on and off the field or court to become a better man and athlete than I ever imagined.

Mic and I first connected in an accounting class, my first semester. I also thought she was a Freshman, but turns out she was a Junior. This was the start of our friendship. I don't even know how it grew, but all of a sudden, we were hanging out every day, and I even convinced her to join the track team. Mic and I became training partners in the 800. She is one of the main reasons Tobias and I met.

My true goon. I always have "looked up" to Luke. As my giant friend Luke always is down for a good time, and to teach me with all his wisdom and knowledge. With conversations I never thought I would have and learning from a man I should have listened to more as a kid. Luke is a stud, and there is so much he has to offer.

Rachael is another one of my teammates. We got really close last year and get to wedding plan together as she is also engaged! Rachael is very funny and loves to laugh. She is up for any adventure. She is also slightly insane as she enjoys racing a 10k around a track.

Andy is Andy. From wild McDons runs at midnight after a good win on the pitch to wacky spontaneous group activities throughout our college years, Andy was at the heart of the Adventures. He brought out my spontaneous side more than enough, and he pushed me as a person as he did as an athlete. I would give anything for another week of college with Andy!

Bekah and I have been friends since we were born. We grew up in the same church and have stayed friends throughout the many changes in both of our lives. Somehow, we both ended up attending Houghton and making the same friends. I am so grateful for your friendship.

A man I grew to love after only knowing him for a day as my soccer teammate, who had no touch on the ball, has grown to more than a friend, a brother. Caleb keeps me on my toes when I need it and always has an ear for my humor, whether he wants to hear it or not. Caleb is a kind of friend I never thought I would have, and a friend I'll never be able to live without.
