The Story

Part 1: The One Where They Were Introduced (Kind Of) 

The romance of Jeni and Tobin is a story of divine intervention and perfect timing. Our tale begins in the summer of 2021. Tobin's sister, Meera, had just gotten engaged. Shortly afterwards, a mutual friend of Meera and Jeni, Ria, decided to follow in her mom’s footsteps to play matchmaker and set up Jeni and Meera's brother, Tobin. (For those of you that know Jeni’s brother and sister-in-law’s love story, you know Simy Aunty’s role. Their family should really start a matchmaking business!) Anyway, Ria told Jeni about Tobin, and both the guy and gal expressed interest. It should have been a slam dunk, a fairytale ending right then and there. Instead, they...did absolutely nothing. Classic.

Part 2: The One Where the Timing Was Off (Again)

God, however, didn’t give up and tried again a few years later through another mutual friend, Shelmy, and her dad, Kariachan uncle. She brought up Tobin's name to Jeni, who, like a true rom-com heroine, immediately recognized him as "that guy from before." Hope flickered! But, in a twist that would make Bollywood screenwriters groan, Tobin had just started talking to another girl. The timing was off again. God really does have a sense of humor.

Part 3: The One Where They Finally Got Together

Jeni, growing a bit tired of this epic saga, and unable to stop thinking about the guy she almost-met twice, she reached out to Ria for one last, desperate attempt at destiny. Ria, a true champion of love, did not waste a second. She immediately contacted Meera, who confirmed that Tobin was, in fact, gloriously single. Finally, the timing was right. Tobin and Jeni began talking and immediately clicked. They connected effortlessly, talking for hours on end and often staying up all night on the phone, which, if you know Jeni, is nothing short of miraculous since she has always cherished her sleep. They quickly discovered how much they had in common: a love for reading, Bollywood movies, and 2000s music, because who doesn’t love a little nostalgia and catchy choruses? They found each other hilarious, too — the kind of funny where you start laughing before the other person even finishes the joke. Despite both being introverts, they somehow never tired of each other’s company or ran out of things to talk about, and their laughter has basically been a constant background soundtrack ever since. It took three tries, a small army of meddling friends, and a fulfillment of God's promise, but they finally found their way to each other.
