Flying to San Pedro Sula

San Pedro Sula is served by the Aeropuerto Internacional Ramón Villeda Morales (SAP). From the US, it is served by American, Delta, JetBlue, United, and Spirit. When traveling from the Northeast, flights are often significantly cheaper when flying out of New York airports compared to New England airports. JetBlue flies direct to SAP from JFK and United flies direct from Newark.

Clearing Customs

BEFORE ARRIVING IN HONDURAS fill out this <a href="https://sisglobal.aduanas.gob.hn/Pech/#/plataforma/otra_gestiones/formularioDJRV" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">form</a> and take a screenshot of the QR code it provides you. WiFi and cell service are poor in the customs area of the terminal, so make sure the form is filled out BEFORE you board your flight to Honduras. While most customs agents speak English, some do not. Regardless, they will ask you to provide the following information. 1.) Reason for visit (tourism).2.) How long you will be in the country.3.) Address you will be staying at. We suggest having the address written down or typed on your phone so you can hand it to the customs agent. After you finish talking to the agent you will have to present a QR code from the entry form you filled out before arriving in Honduras. You will then be in an area where you can pick up your checked bags and place them on a scanner. Once your bags have been scanned you officially through customs!

Getting to the hotel

For those flying in Thursday and Friday, we will coordinate rides to and from the airport to the Copantl Hotel and Convention Center. More details on that to come. Some other hotels, such as the InterContinental and the Hyatt Place, offer airport shuttles.

Getting around San Pedro

While renting a car is an option, we recommend guests utilize Uber to get around. Roads are a bit crazy and the drivers can make Massholes seem like saints on the road. Ubers are cheap, safe, and abundant and are usually the best way to get around. Transportation will be provided to and from the Copantl Hotel to the Church for the Nuptial Mass and Reception.

Heading Home

Before arriving at the airport, fill out this <a href="https://sisglobal.aduanas.gob.hn/Pech/#/plataforma/otra_gestiones/formularioDJRV" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">form</a> (the same one you used to enter) and screenshot the QR code. While you likely have a digital boarding pass from when you checked in to your flight online, exit customs requires you to check in with the airline again at the airport have a physical boarding pass. This can usually be done by going to a kiosk and scanning either your passport or digital boarding pass. Before or after getting your boarding pass, a representative from the airline will ask you a few questions and then place a sticker on the back of your passport.

Hike to the Coca-Cola Sign

San Pedro Sula is overlooked by a Hollywood-esqe sign advertising Coca-Cola. Hiking to the sign is 1.5 miles one way and offers views overlooking the city and surrounding mountains. Adventurous individuals can continue to climb another 1.1 miles to the top of the hill for more views! We suggest starting early in morning to beat the heat. Safety

Is Honduras Safe?

Yes! Like any city, San Pedro Sula has some rough parts, but also many nice parts. A good US city comparison in terms of both size and safety would be Washington DC (minus all the parks and monuments). We crafted the "things to do" with the comfort and safety of our guests in mind. San Pedro Sula is not a touristy city full of attractions or sightseeing spots. However, it is a gastronomically rich city, offering many different dining options for all palates.

Do you have any tips for staying safe?

Follow advice like you would for any large US City. Travel in groups, don't walk alone, don't walk at night, be aware of your surroundings, and stay in well lit areas.

Can I drink the tap water?

No, it is not safe to drink tap water in Honduras. Bottled water is readily available for purchase at hotels.

Transport

How should I get around the city?

San Pedro is not a walkable city, so no, do not walk anywhere. While renting a car is an option, if you are a nervous or anxious driver you are likely to be very overwhelmed when driving in Honduras. We recommend using Uber to get around. Rides are inexpensive, the drivers know their way around the city, and the entire system is safe.

I'm not staying at the Copantl, will rides to my hotel be provided?

In order to ease the logistical burden, we unfortunately can not offer rides to other hotels in San Pedro Sula. For getting to and from the airport, guests not staying at the Copantl are encouraged to inquire with their hotel about an Airport shuttle.

I'm not staying at the Copantl, can I still use the provided rides?

Yes! All guests are welcome to use the provided transport to and from Copantl, for both getting to and from the airport and to and from the church on the wedding day, regardless on if they are staying at the Copantl or not. For getting from the Copantl to your final destination, we recommend using Uber.

Dresscode

What should I wear on the wedding day?

We ask that you dress your best on our wedding day! Formal dress code is the preference and suggestion. For Ladies:Long/floor length evening dresses, for dresses with exposed shoulders please wear a shawl/cover-up while in the church. For Gentlemen:Suit coat, dress pants, shirt, and tie.

What should I wear to the welcome cocktail?

Come looking nice but also comfortable! Please leave sweats, leggings, jeans, and T-shirts in the hotel room.

Nuptial Mass

I have never been to a Catholic Mass, what should I know?

Welcome! We are so honored that our Nuptial Mass will be your first (and hopefully not last) time at a Catholic Mass. There will be booklets to help guide you along through the Mass, when to stand, sit, kneel, and respond. With that said, our advice, don't worry about doing everything perfectly, rather be curious and observant, and feel free to talk ask questions about what you just experienced with a Catholic after Mass! This <a href="https://restlesspilgrim.net/blog/2018/06/16/attending-mass/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">article</a> provides a little more insight into what to expect attending Mass for the first time.

Should I receive communion?

If you are not Catholic, No. As Catholics, we believe that the Eucharist is Jesus Christ truly present in Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. In order to ensure the proper love and respect towards Our Savior and those who attend Mass, the Catholic Church has strict rules on receiving the Eucharist. Consumption of the Eucharist is reserved only for initiated Catholics who are in a state of grace. If you are not a practicing Catholic, have not been to confession in the last year, or are not in a state of grace, please refrain from partaking in the Body and Blood of Christ. We invite you to still come forward during Communion with your arms crossed across your chest to receive a blessing from the priest.

Do I need to tip?

Tipping is expected in Honduras. Tipping culture in Honduras is very similar to that in the US. 20% is customary at restaurants, and a few dollars is expected for Uber rides, hair appointments, etc.
