Like all great love stories, ours began with a little online meddling — courtesy of my sister. She set me up on a dating app, found Dave, and even started chatting with him as me. (Yes, catfishing — but with love.) Eventually, I took over the conversation, and somehow, we matched — not just on one, but two dating sites. Fate? Glitch in the Matrix? Who knows. Our first date was at an axe throwing place — because nothing says romance like hurling sharp objects at a wall. I was nervous. Dave was sweet. And when he walked me to my car afterward, I had this strong feeling he might try to kiss me. Me being the awkward weirdo I am, I panicked, went in for a hug, and buried my face in his chest to avoid the kiss entirely. Awkward! Then Dave, being the gentleman he is, asked, “Would it be appropriate to ask if I can kiss you?” Cheesy? Yes. Charming? Absolutely. Oh — and I had a couple of drinks that night, so I was feeling bloated. I told him. Out loud. Like a real oversharer. He looked me straight in the eye and said it was totally fine if I farted. I thought, “Who is this guy?” Then he leaned in for a hug… and yep. I farted. He thought it was hilarious. I did too. Somehow, that moment was kind of the beginning of everything. Our second date was a little more... chaotic. We went out for Mexican food, and when the hostess asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside, I — a person who hates eating outside — randomly said “outside.” As we were walking out, I noticed my neighbors sitting there. I panicked. Fully panicked. I screamed, “The bees! The bees!!” and ran back inside like a lunatic. I asked the hostess to please let us sit inside instead. I was sure I had just freaked Dave out beyond repair. But once I explained the real reason (pure awkwardness and social anxiety), he couldn’t stop laughing. He thought it was hilarious — and somehow, still wanted to keep seeing me. Then came our third date. As Dave was on his way to pick me up, my mom suddenly asked, “So… is it time for us to meet him?” I figured, why not. So I casually texted Dave: “Would you be willing to come inside for a minute and meet my parents?” His response: “Sure! Is there anything I need to know about them?” My response: “Nope!”Needless to say, that did not ease his nerves. He spent the rest of the drive wondering if my stepdad was going to answer the door holding a shotgun. (Spoiler alert: he didn’t.) Now here’s where it gets even funnier: I actually thought Dave was too nice — like suspiciously nice. So I decided I was going to ghost him after a week. I even timed it with a cruise I had planned. Problem solved, right? Wrong. My sister posted pictures from the cruise on Facebook while we were still on the trip, and Dave liked one of them. Busted. So I called him… and somehow, that call turned into something real. Fast forward to a trip to New Jersey to visit my family. I had specifically told my parents, “If he ever proposes, please don’t let it be in front of everyone!” Naturally, Dave proposed… right in front of everyone. And of course, I said yes. From identity theft to awkward hugs, bee-related panic attacks, shotgun-level nerves, cruise sabotage, and a very public proposal — our story has been weird, wonderful, and perfectly us. We can’t wait to start this next chapter together, and we’re so glad you’re here for it.
