March 14, 2020.. the night it all started. We were set up on a blind date by Sierra & Cole. All we were told is “her name is Kayla & she’s 26, his name is Travis & he’s 26.” I honestly thought we would go on this double date and never talk again, I mean how many successful blind dates do you hear about. We both went shopping that day to pick out new outfits before we met up that evening (so cute thinking back - those early dating jitters). We went to Bourbons in Brighton for dinner, then out to a couple bars for drinks and music. After a few months we learned a lot about each other, especially how our age was lied about and there was a not so little age gap between us. Over the next few months, we went back and forth to each other places for our dates since everything was still shut down. We took our first vacation together in July 2020. We went camping in the UP where we ended up being stuck with COVID together and quarantining for 2 weeks after. Travis and Ella moved in with Misty and I early 2021. From the lake days, vacations, date nights, time with our families and friends we are truly blessed to be going through life together.

We talked about marriage in the early days knowing we would be together forever. We just wanted to wait until the time was right. I believed the time would come in late 2023 or early 2024, but I was wrong! Last minute we planned a quick 3 year anniversary trip to Punta Cana. We wanted to do an excursion, but we just couldn’t decide on one. He was really pushing to go horseback riding on the beach. I thought it was weird how excited he was to go, I just thought it was because of my love for horses and to check off a bucket list item for me. Being my oblivious self I had NO idea that he was planning to propose! At the end of our horse back ride on the beach, we stopped to take pictures and thats when Travis popped the question!! Horses and the beach..?! The perfect proposal!!
