So, you’ve been invited to Michayla and Trent’s wedding—but you may not know how they met.Let me tell you how it all began. But before I do—grab a coffee, sit down, and buckle in, because this is going to be a wild ride!It all started with two separate journeys that led them to the great city of Hamilton. Michayla took many twists and turns in her education before ending up at Redeemer University. Trent, meanwhile, was just a freshman at McMaster University.At this point, Michayla was in her second-ish year, working toward her psychology degree and attending James North Baptist Church on Sundays, as well as their Friday night young adults program. That’s where Trent first laid eyes on his future sweetheart.After jamming out to a musical number with a bunch of over-tired young adults (Michayla included), Trent headed to the next room to get his usual Friday night dose of ping pong. Most nights, he challenged a new friend he had made—Joseph—to a game. No matter how close he came, Trent just couldn’t seem to beat Joseph.One night, after another loss, he overheard someone mention “Joseph’s sister, Michayla.”In disbelief, Trent turned and asked, “Wait… Michayla in the other room is your sister? You two don’t really look alike!” Not that Jospeh wasn’t an attractive guy, but Trent was surprised that the cutest girl at young adults was his sister.&nbsp;After that, a few more months went by. Occasionally, Trent and Michayla would find themselves in the same group conversation—but rarely (if ever) did they talk one-on-one.That didn’t stop Michayla from making what, at the time, felt like a random move…In mid-February of 2022, Trent received a text from Joseph—it was an invite to Michayla Tabet’s 21st birthday party. Trent, genuinely surprised, replied, “This is great and all, but I think you sent this to the wrong person. I don’t really know Michayla that well.”But there was no mistake. A month and a bit later, Trent showed up at Michayla’s house for the party. He had a blast! Still, they didn’t really talk that night, and the party didn’t spark any future conversations outside their regular friend group.That summer, Trent worked at James North Baptist Church. By now, he’d spent enough time around Michayla to be hopeful—he looked forward to group hangouts and maybe getting to know her better. But then he found out she’d be away for the summer, and it would be four months before they crossed paths again at church.That same summer, Michayla visited Hamilton for a weekend and remembers very specifically seeing Trent lead worship on the Sunday. She couldn’t help but think how that freshman boy Trent seemed to have turned into a man in just two short months. She was also discouraged when it seemed like a few other girls were thinking the same thing.Fast forward a year and a half later, and folks, if you are not sitting down, now is the time to do so. Trent submitted an application to be the camp director at James North Baptist Church. Hired by none other than yours truly, Michayla. On a bright sunny day, Trent came to the church for an interview, and in what was supposed to be a one-hour interview turned into a three-hour discussion about team management, camp curriculum, and soccer league ideas. Trent pulled up PowerPoint after PowerPoint, and a multitude of documents laying out his ideas. Once the summer was planned and all seemed to be put in place, the interview was over, and Trent awaited a response. A couple of days later, he received a call from Michayla letting him know he got the job to work as her Camp Director. Little did the two of them know, their bonding during camp would blossom into a romantic relationship a few months later.Over the course of the summer, Michayla and Trent thrived in the fast-paced, high-energy camp environment. They worked together to organize the summer, lead team meetings, and eventually lead the charge during the camp day.&nbsp;One of the tasks they worked together on was creating fun and exciting opening and closing camp sessions. This often involved some songs, skits, and lots of improv. At one point, they broke out into a week-long prank war, where campers chose sides and couldn’t wait to see the next move. Michayla ended up getting the better of Trent in an all-time prank (linked here https://youtu.be/6IaUAsN8GQQ).One Saturday morning during the summer, they bumped into each other at a local coffee shop (the same coffee shop Trent proposed in this past March). What started as a casual encounter turned into a long conversation where they discovered how much they had in common—besides just their love of camp!Although things stayed “just friends” for a few more months, people around them began to take notice. “Would you ever consider dating Trent?” someone would ask Michayla. “No, we’re just friends,” she’d say. Trent, when asked the same about Michayla, gave the same answer.But as we all know… that wasn’t the whole story. That fall, after Trent returned to school, he finally made the bold move—he asked her out. That night, Michayla went home thinking, “How could this guy have been around these past couple of years, and we’re only getting to the good part now?”Michayla and Trent are so thankful they were able to observe each other serve in the church and their community over the years. But they’re even more thankful that now—they get to spend a lifetime doing it together.&nbsp;

Odds are, if you know Michayla, you also know Sarina. These two were inseparable growing up. Even when they had the chance to do things independently, they always chose to do them together. Sarina is only thirteen months younger than Michayla, which might be why the two of them were inseparable and often confused for being twins.

When it came to choosing a Matron of Honour, Sarina was the easiest decision of all. Before Daniel came along for Sarina and Trent for Michayla, they were each other's person. And even as they both step into this new season of life as married women, they’ll still be on speed dial for each other—whether it’s for an early morning outfit check or an emergency message that just can’t wait.

Growing up, Chad acted as Trent's prime basketball competition in the driveway, his debate counterpart around the campfire, and ... Despite the many times Chad and Trent were asked, "Are you two twins?" Chad is two years younger than his brother. Chad currently attends Laurier University, where he studies Kinesiology and is a member of the Laurier Golden Hawks Track and Field team. In his spare time, he loves to play ANY type of sport. When Chad and Trent spend time together, they love to join forces on the basketball court or challenge each other to the most competitive and least skilled games of golf the world has ever seen.

Chad Thorpe

Brook and Michayla are not only best friends, but also the ultimate travel buddies. To date, they’ve adventured together in Vancouver, Whistler, Rome, Florence, Oxford, Manchester, and the Cotswolds. But before they were travel companions, they were roommates.

Their friendship began during Spring Crew 2019 at MBC. They spent two months living together—without really hanging out. It wasn’t until their final week as roommates that they realized how well they clicked. Since then, their bond has grown through deep conversations, long-distance phone calls, and espressos in Italian piazzas. That pretty much sums up this beautiful friendship.

Brooklynn Ross

Joshua is Michayla's youngest sibling. One of the first times Josh and Trent spent any time together was to celebrate his birthday. After Michayla and Trent hung out with Josh and his friends on the boat, the three of them then went to have dinner together at a local shop in Huntsville. Little did Josh know then that Trent would be around for many future birthdays as well! Josh is currently attending Georgian College, studying construction. With any free second, Josh can be found playing hockey, hanging out with friends, or spending time on the water.

Naomi is the gift that just keeps on giving. It’s clear that God knew these two were meant to be friends—because their paths just kept unintentionally colliding. Through many seasons of life, Naomi has been the encouraging voice Michayla needed, often bringing a little spark of joy right in the middle of the chaos.

She’s been a longtime friend to both Trent and Michayla and has consistently been one of the biggest cheerleaders of their relationship. When Michayla called Naomi to tell her that something had finally sparked between her and Trent, Naomi responded by screaming and saying, “YOU GUYS ARE LITERALLY GOING TO BE PERFECT!”

Joseph and Trent first met at a young adults' night at church, where they played ping pong together. Over the next couple of months, Joseph repeatedly beat Trent at ping pong. From working together at day camp to playing sports and being used as examples of what not to do in Derek's sermon illustrations, Joseph and Trent have grown to become good friends. Currently, Joseph works at Far and Wide Financial and is the founder of Chalom Investments and Insurance. Thankfully, he has graciously given up a precious summer weekend to spend with his sister and future brother-in-law. On any other weekend, he’d likely be checking wind speeds, waxing the boat, and wakeboarding.

Aubrey is Michayla’s little bestie and the oldest of the Hisson kids. She’s one of the kindest girls you’ll ever meet, with a sensitive heart and a natural gift for caring for those around her.

Their friendship is full of fun, laughter, and a little bit of copycatting—when Michayla spontaneously chopped seven inches off her hair, Aubrey wasn’t far behind. But to be fair, the influence goes both ways!

Though Michayla has often played a “big sister” role in Aubrey’s life, she’s also been deeply touched by Aubrey’s character. Something that Michayla actively tries to copy Aubrey in.

If you don't know how to play Euchre then this story won't make as much sense. Daniel, Sarina (his wife and the Matron of Honour), Michayla, and Trent were Euchre fanatics over the 2023 summer. These games often consisted of D&S settling into their highly competitive modes, while T&M told jokes and Michayla asked to "clarify" what it meant to go alone. All fun and games and serious euchre games were played and enjoyed. Daniel is currently working towards his Red Seal. Daniel loves to play sports, spend time on the water, and (a story to ask Elliot Tabet later) loves using chainsaws.

A man of wise words and a childlike spirit—Father Tabet is somehow both the wisest person in the room and the one least likely to ever truly grow up. 

Thanks to his youthful heart, Michayla’s childhood was filled with unforgettable moments—he was the dad who always said “yes” to fun, and the one who turned even ordinary days into exciting memories.

Growing up, Michayla saw her dad as a superhero—strong, kind, fun, and full of wisdom. And that view hasn’t changed, even into her adult years. His consistent love and leadership have only made her admire him more over time.

While Michayla may look like her mom, she definitely takes after Elliott in personality. Both are extreme extroverts, always ready to chat with anyone and everyone. And of course, no dance floor is complete without Michayla channeling her dad’s legendary dance moves.

Known as “Mother Tabet” to most, and “Mommy” to Michayla, Lisa has been a steady presence of love and sacrifice throughout Michayla’s life. As a child, Michayla didn’t fully grasp the extent of everything her mom did for their family—staying home to homeschool the kids, spending countless hours driving them to activities, and preparing meal after meal (only to hear at least one child complain). Lisa was often the picture of sacrificial love, quietly going without thanks.

It wasn’t until adulthood that Michayla realized just how cool her mom really is—and began to truly appreciate how incredible she’s always been. These days, they argue much less than they did during Michayla’s high school years, when advice was rarely welcomed. Now, their biggest disagreement is who gets to keep Praline, the family dog, when Michayla officially moves out (good luck, Trent).

Lisa Tabet

Janette is Trent's mom, but more primarily his biggest fan on the basketball court. No matter whether it was a regular season game, a championship game, or a recreational pickup game, Janette can be found on the fifth bleacher up with a cowbell, committed to being the loudest cheerer in the gym. Currently, she is a grade 2/3 teacher, a passionate kids ministry volunteer, and a super mom to her two kids, who struggle to remember to make themselves food and do their laundry. She loves spending time with her husband and kids at their vacation bunkie in New Brunswick, eating lots of lobster.

Janette Thorpe

Jonathon, otherwise known as Coach Jon, J.T., or Thorpe, depending on the context in which you know him. Jonathon is Trent's dad and has been his personal basketball coach for 22 years. It was at Coach Jon's expert basketball advice that Trent was watching March Madness a couple of hours after he was born. Jonathon teaches history and law at Eden High School while taking on a variety of basketball coaching ventures in his spare time. He loves to spend time with his wife at their vacation bunkie in New Brunswick, where he is always building something new to add to their summer oasis. 

Jonathon Thorpe

Aveline, better known as Avy, is the middle sibling between Aubrey and Sully. While Michayla was working at James North Baptist Church, Avy was always Michayla's sidekick. From gathering the materials and organizing different crafts to being a role model of listening during Sunday School, Avy is always ready to lend a helping hand. When it comes to sports, Avy loves to play baseball and root for her dad's favourite sports teams (the Leafs). 

Aveline Hisson

Berlin is Trent's youngest cousin on his Mom's side. She is an energetic young girl who can definitely talk your ear off. When Trent was running Backyard Summer Camps/Day Camps in St. Catherines, Berlin was one of his campers. She particularly enjoyed the games and sports they played throughout the week. Berlin loves to play soccer, hockey, and run track and field.

Sullivan, better known as Sully, is best known for his comment, "Dunk can't dunk!" What started as a party trick for day camp, where Trent (named Dunk at camp) would dunk a ball in a basketball hoop, turned into catch line for all the campers to remind Trent that he did not always succeed in his dunk attempt. While some campers flip-flopped sides throughout the summer, Sully remained faithful to leading the charge and chant of "Dunk can't dunk!" No matter whether it was during camp, a Sunday morning, or any other random time, Sully sees Trent, this is always his first comment. Sully loves to play sports, including hockey, baseball, and soccer!
