Our Wedding

Like any modern-day romance, our journey began on social media. It all started when he stumbled upon my Instagram profile on the explore page. Apparently mesmerized by my smile, he couldn't resist hitting that follow button. Little did he know, I had noticed his cute profile too, but I decided to play it cool and let his follow request sit there for a while. Eventually, curiosity got the best of me, and I accepted his request. On my story, I mentioned that I lack confidence about my smile. Without missing a beat, he slid up on my story and told me that he never wanted to hear me speak negatively about my smile again. He even teased me playfully, saying that maybe one day he would come all the way to South Africa just to see my smile for himself - what a flirt, haha! I didn't take his words too seriously at the time. As days turned into months, our connection grew stronger. He was determined to keep his promise, no matter what. From Massachusetts to South Africa, he booked a flight to meet me in person, take me on a date, and meet my family, however, there was a little detour. He caught Covid in London and ended up in quarantine for 10 long days. Despite the setback, he didn't waiver. It was during that time together that he made his intentions crystal clear. Our love story may have started on social media, but it quickly became an extraordinary adventure filled with determination, love, and a promise kept.

How we met

Our First Date

Our first date was a little tricky to define because we had not one, but two incredible experiences that marked the beginning of our love story. Both were unique and special in their own way, making it impossible for us to choose just one. Technically our first date was on a safari drive in East London. It was SOOOO COOOLDDD but, we had so much fun. We were lucky enough to see 4 out of the 5 of the "big five". I was so fascinated by the lions, how majestic and cuddly they were, but she couldn't get over the smell, I think she expected them to smell like shampoo and roses, instead... the air was filled with a metallic decay. It was rainy and muddy so the car got stuck in the mud quite often but I was happy to spend some real time together. It was really intimate and we got to enjoy each other's company and experience something together for the first time. It felt almost ... surreal.&nbsp;When she felt scared, she would squeeze my arm with her little hands, and it warmed my heart to see how comfortable and safe she felt in my presence. We were nervous about how our in-person dynamic would compare to our phone conversations after dating for a year, but it felt like the first day of our relationship all over again. A few days later, we had our official sit-down date at a beautiful restaurant in Cape Town. She had shared pictures of it with me beforehand,&nbsp;so I made a reservation. She wore a black dress that she had kept for years, saved specifically for her first date. Paired with her red and black shoes, she looked absolutely beautiful, and I kept stealing glances at her. As we sat across from each other, our connection deepened. We talked about everything, and couldn't stop laughing. I fell even more in love, watching her childlike, yet motherly gestures as well as the small things she'd do to show me that she cared, like reaching over to season my food, or dab the corner of my mouth with her tissues. We talked for hours then took a walk around the pond, admiring the scenery before we made it back to the car. As soon as we got into the car, she reclined her seat, curled up and fell asleep for the entire drive until we we got to the house. It still amazes me how she could sleep so comfortably, while for me, it was my first time driving in Cape Town. Both of these experiences hold a special place in our hearts, as they marked the beginning of our journey together. From the wild adventures of the safari to the tender moments shared over a dinner, our first dates were the start of something truly special.

The Proposal

This picture and these smiles on our faces is the culmination of nine months of careful planning and subtle deception. Let’s rewind to April 2022. Three months after Likho and I first got the chance to see each other and date each other in person. When I got home, I knew that I wanted to marry her, I had no doubts. ‘So how do I turn this strong desire into reality?’ I thought to myself. Well, after I arrived back home from South Africa, it took me a little while to recover from the unplanned expenses but come April I was ready. Likho, thankfully is very clueless because up to that point I was able to get her ring size and the ring design she liked best and she didn’t even know it. So, over the next few months I would go back and forth to the jeweler, tweaking the design and making sure it was exactly what Likho wanted, and each time I went, she and I were on the phone, and yet somehow she never suspected what exactly I was doing. By June ring was made and by October I had it. So from October until December of 2022, I was on edge, waiting for the moment to come. I won’t lie, I had no idea how I was going to propose until probably November. I had an idea, but nothing set in stone. Not until Rocky Cotard, with his artistic expertise offered to help if I needed him to paint something for me. See, Likho and I planned to do a paint and sip, and turn it into a YouTube video. So when Rocky said that, I knew what I was going to do. I was going to hijack the video! It was originally going to be a Q&amp;A for Likho’s followers to get to know us, but now it would also be a proposal video, and she had no idea. I had rocky paint the proposal painting and when I had it, I was ready to go. I made sure to keep it in good condition on the flight to South Africa, and when I was there, I had only a day to figure out how to make this work. Months prior, I had asked Likho’s mom to help me to plan this proposal. She invited all of their close friends and family to come, and helped me order flowers for her. Now when this day came, here’s what how I wanted things to go: I would distract Likho for the day while her mom would gather everyone (about 8 people), and when we arrived back at Likho’s house, we would have the paint and sip. During the paint and sip, I was going to plant the ring and the painting in inconspicuous spots, and at the time Likho and I showed each other our paintings, I had a code phrase to indicate that it was time to distract Likho so I could put the ring and the proposal painting in place. The phrase would be: “Now it’s time to show each other our paintings. When I said this, Likho’s mom wa supposed to call her outside, or just away from the area so I could do my thing. Here’s how it actually went…. The day of the proposal, I did my part. Likho and I had gone to get supplies for the paint and sip, and I made sure we spent as much of the day shopping so that her mom could finish getting everything ready. While we were out, her mom had a few setbacks. So she would text me. I had to inconspicuously hide from Likho that her mom was panicking and asking me for help. We worked it out, but only barely. So now it was time to go back to the house. All of Likho’s family and friends were safely close by, but far enough that she wouldn’t know they were there. Discreetly, I told Likho’s mom what the signal was, and Likho and I went to work setting up for the paint and sip. Thinking myself smart, I put my painting and the ring underneath some cushions on the couch. Little did I know, Likho wanted to use the cushions I had hid them under for ‘aesthetics.’ She actually took the cushion I hid the ring under and it was now exposed. I was terrified! But somehow, she didn’t see it. And now, she was on the way to get the other cushion so just before she went to get the other one I stopped her and said I’d do it myself. So when she turned her back, I took my painting and flung it behind the couch!. Then I pushed the ring further into the couch cushions. Crisis averted (for now). So, we proceeded with the paint and sip. Everything was going fine but we realized that there would be load shedding! For those that don’t know what that is, it’s when the power gets shut off in a certain area for a period of time so as to preserve the power supply. We had an hour until this would happen, so we needed to hurry up. Finally, we got to the end, we did 7 questions, and the paintings were almost done. I was finished with mine, I had painted Michael Jordan doing his famous free throw line dunk, in my own artistic fashion. Likho had painted something abstract and could not figure out how to finish it. So naturally, I rushed her, and to this day she complains that it didn’t com out good because I rushed her. She she finished, and I let out the code phrase, the signal that would signify that we need to distract Likho. The time had come. What was I met with? Silence. I waited a beat, looked toward the door, and then found a way to say it again. Again, nothing. I could not believe it. I was so nervous and so panicked, I didn’t know what to do. I did the only think I could think of. I told Likho to show me her painting first. And she did! I tried to ask her what motivated the painting and just say things to buy time. But, now it was really my turn. So I said that I needed to get something from upstairs. I had no options. I figured I could go upstairs, and maybe regroup and find a way to make things work. On the way, I passed the door and thankfully, I saw Likho’s cousin. I pretended to go up the stairs and when I was out of Likho’s sight, I quietly, desperately, tried to signal to her cousin to call Likho to the door. She had no idea what I was saying! It took a few tries, but finally, after what felt like forever, she understood, and called Likho. My heart was racing, I was so nervous. When Likho went to the door, I ran to the couch to get the ring and the painting, that was now underneath it. It was awkward, and I’m pretty sure she saw me getting the painting, but being the oblivious human that she is, she suspected nothing. I’m certain God put a veil over her eyes so that she wouldn’t see. But in any case, somehow, I got the ring in my pocket, out of sight, and the painting safely tucked behind what I was painting during the paint and sip. So she sat down. I gave her cousin the look that it was about to happen. And then it was my turn to show my painting. What I showed her was the painting that’s in the picture above. She was speechless. She had no idea what was going on. I think it was safe to say that she was surprised. So after she saw it and read it, I got on one knee, I took out the ring, and I said those four words: “Will you marry me?” By then, the rest of her family and friends had already trickled in, and been filming and that’s when she noticed them. And I think that’s when she finally realized what was happening. During this time, I have no idea exactly what I said. It was all a blur. But next thing I know, she was crying, and she was babbling, and finally, she said yes.

We have put together a list of accommodations near the venue to help with your planning. The venue has accommodation available as well, you may contact the venue regarding this, however, if you plan on extending your stay, we would suggest finding alternative accommodation as the venue is about 60 - 70 KM (37.2 - 43.4 Miles) away from the City Center/CBD and other entertainment

OUR SUGGESTION:   We will live in, and around the Blouberg area in Cape Town, near the beach, the area is safe and easily accessible. Transport to and from the heart of the city is easily available via the MyCiti Bus (a 30 - 45 minute trip) or driving (a 20-minute trip), Ubers and Bolts are also available.   We would suggest staying in and around the area, especially before or after the wedding. The area also has the most affordable accommodation in a safe environment. Located in the central section of the Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) Silvermine offers some of the best hikes in the Park with beautiful fynbos landscapes. There is plenty to take in, in and around Silvermine – a short and wheelchair-friendly boardwalk around the dam, a beautifully therapeutic river walk, a light walk to the Silvermine waterfall, bird spotting, picnics, dog walking and mountain biking, to name but a few. There are no credit card facilities at the Silvermine Entrance gate.There are two sections with formal parking: Gate One: Turn right off Ou Kaapse Weg coming from Cape Town. This area offers mountain biking tracks and a selection of hikes ranging from easy to challenging. Hikers can walk to the top of Constantaiburg Mountain for perfect views of Hout Bay or simply stroll around the reservoir's wheelchair-friendly boardwalk. There are also picturesque braai/ picnic sites available. Gate Two: A few hundred meters past Gate One, turn left into the car park. From here you can hike over to Kalk Bay or simply do a circuit route. This section of the Park includes Afromontane Forests, waterfalls, and very interesting geology. Signal Hill, is the site which is most commonly flown from because of its location and the stunning views of Table Mountain, Robben Island, the Waterfront and the Cape Town area. There is a clear blue pool facing the water's edge under palm trees. Lounge on day beds facing the sea and order drinks from the outdoor bar.&nbsp;As the sun sets and evening arrives, the atmosphere turns from relaxed and cool to vibrant and hot. A resident DJ plays throughout the summer season, so dancing is on the cards, and you can dine at Violet Restaurant, Cabo’s more exclusive eatery.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden is acclaimed as one of the great botanic gardens of the world. Few gardens can match the sheer grandeur of the setting of Kirstenbosch, against the eastern slopes of Cape Town’s Table Mountain.

African penguins used to be known as Jackass penguins, due to their distinctive braying, and are the only penguins found on the continent. &nbsp;The beach is always clean and safe, because it falls under the Table Mountain National Park Marine Protected Area. It is rarely crowded, and kids will be delighted by the stunning rockpools. But the soft white sand and warm(ish) waters are not the only reasons why 60 000 visitors a year make their way along the coast, past&nbsp;<a href="https://www.capetown.travel/travel-like-a-local-your-neighbourhood-guide-to-simons-town" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Simon’s Town</a>, to Boulders Beach. The local inhabitants—African penguins in their thousands—know how to pull the crowds.

Rich in cultural and natural heritage this is one of the top tourist destinations in South Africa. Due to the variety of wildlife that occurs here it is the only section of the TMNP that is fenced and visitors should look out for Eland, Red Hartebeest, Bontebok and Zebra. Be sure to visit the Buffelsfontein Visitor Centre that showcases all the plants and animals to look out for in a particular season and is full of informative signage. At the point, visitors are treated to excellent viewing opportunities from both lighthouses that adorn the most south western point in Africa, one still fully functional. Cape of Good Hope

All you need to do is take a seat and pedal away, exactly like you would on a normal bicycle. It’s the best way to view marine life, including Cape fur seals, penguins (and even whales in season), as well as the picturesque scenery of False Bay. Besides being fun, water bikes are super-stable and don’t require fuel (nor do they emit CO2), making them ecofriendly and quiet way to cruise the ocean. The crew is close by, on a nearby guide boat, to guide you from Simon’s Town pier, past the naval base and towards Boulders Beach, or down the coastline towards Glencairn. Our flower arrangement theme explained

This one is a bit more sentimental... When it came to choosing the colors for our wedding flower arrangements, we wanted more than just a beautiful palette; we wanted a story, a reflection of a thoughtful gesture that holds a special place in our hearts. It all began with a simple conversation where I shared with Trey how much I love the autumn season. I went on about the way the leaves change into different warm, vibrant colors. Little did I know that this conversation would sow the seeds of a beautiful, sentimental gesture. Where I live, we don't experience the full glory of autumn like he does in the US so Trey, always the romantic, took it upon himself to bring a piece of Autumn to me. He spent weeks collecting leaves in as many different colors as he could find. When Trey returned to South Africa, he brought back a jar filled with reds, golden yellows, and rich browns and named it "Autumn in a Jar." The autumn leaves became the inspiration for our flower color scheme as a reminder of the beautiful journey we've embarked on, filled with moments of love, surprise, and the simple joy of sharing our dreams.
