Our Story

Our First Date (and Many More)

Our story began in January 2022 when Trisha, new to the dating apps, matched with a handsome guy named Karter. We immediately hit it off talking about travel, robotics, stocks (Tesla), and how we, both first year grad students in challenging programs, felt trapped in Dunning-Kruger curves. We connected deeply over our values and aspirations, texting back and forth pages that grew longer every night, and it seemed like a match made in heaven – there was just one problem: Trisha hadn’t realized that her dating app radius had been set to span the entire northeast and Karter was not in Cambridge, but in a full city over in Worcester, MA. Even though neither of us had a car, we discovered a commuter train could bridge the gap between our two cities (and our hearts), and the distance didn’t stop us from deepening our relationship.When Karter finally built up the courage to ask Trisha out, we planned to meet for brunch. What was meant to be a meal together to put faces to the pen pals we had become to each other turned into an 11-hour adventure that took us over 30,000 steps across Boston and Cambridge. Trisha gave Karter a tour of her physics lab at Harvard, where he became enamored with her lasers, levitating magnets, and diamonds. Karter gave Trisha a tour of the local Stop and Shop, pointing out how his robotics startup at the time could revolutionize the world of grocery delivery. Even after 11 hours, it wasnt long enough. We immediately planned our next date for Trisha to visit Karter in Worcester, where he was completing his Master’s degree. After countless more journeys on the commuter train, tens of thousands of steps, and all day dates together, we knew we were each others’ perfect matches.

Building Our Life Together

In May 2023, Karter finished his degree and moved to Somerville, just across the street from Trisha. Finally after 15 months of mid-distance, they got to enjoy life together without planning around the dismal purple line train schedule: spontaneous dinners, movie nights, and more grocery store trips.

Over the next several years, we continued to grow together. Meeting each other's families was a joy. Trisha's family, and especially her Dadu (grandpa) in Houston, made Karter feel like a grandson from the very beginning, and Trisha loved how Karter's family welcomed her with such loving, open arms. Every time Karter visits Texas, he is greeted with Trisha’s mom’s apple cake and hours of philosophizing with her. Every time Trisha visits Iowa, she is met with millions of puppy kisses from Karter’s sister’s dog, Artemis.

Throughout the years, we've traveled the world together. We've jumped into the Aegean sea outside Athens, gazed at sunrise hot air balloons in Cappadoccia, ridden camels into the Sahara desert in Morocco, hopped between the vineyards of Bordeaux, and played with the cats of Istanbul. We’re equally thrilled taking cross-country road trips to Iowa as we are taking cross-city road trips to the Natick mall together. Our ever growing travel bucket list keeps us young (and jetlagged).

In the fall of 2025, we took another big step and bought our first home together in Somerville as Trisha finishes the last couple years of her PhD and Karter continues his career as a robotics engineer.

The Proposal

On February 15th, 2025, Karter proposed to Trisha at a beautiful waterfront park in Boston. A surprise orchestrated by Karter and Trisha’s sister Sarina, the day started with a stroll on the way to “brunch” with Sarina through the park, set up for Valentine’s day with a heart-shaped tunnel and a conveniently placed “Will you marry me?” sign. Trisha, so unsuspecting in fact that she had not even bothered to wear makeup that morning, casually commented "I bet a lot of people get proposed to here" after which Karter popped the question. Of course she said yes, and the rest is history.

We are so excited to celebrate our love with all of you and begin this next chapter of our lives together. Thank you for being part of our story!
