Diabetes NSW - Diabetes is on the increase in Australia and in NSW the incidence of Type 1 diabetes in children is growing at 3% a year. And yet – there is no cure

Your donation will help fund:

- Vital Education, prevention & management programs, awareness projects and support critical research

Bear Cottage is the only children's hospice in NSW providing pediatric palliative care to families caring for a child with a terminal or life limiting illness. Their support programs include respite care, palliative and end of life care which is provided at no charge to families and they rely heavily on corporate and community donations to maintain these critical support services.

Respite at Bear Cottage

Cost: $10,000 - for one family to stay at Bear Cottage for one week's respite

When parents are told their child's life will be cut short, their everyday existence changes forever. As they embark on this difficult journey, there are limited options available to help them get through each day and support them as they face the impossible.

Bear Cottage offers families respite which helps relieve some of the stress that both the patient and their families can endure. At Bear Cottage families can stay for that much needed break, taking time to re-charge their batteries and feel safe in the knowledge that their child is being cared for by experienced staff. Meals and housework are taken care of allowing the family to spend quality time together and create positive memories that will stay with them after their child's death.

There is no cost for families to stay at Bear Cottage and respite care is available for up to 4 weeks per year.
