Our Wedding

While traveling through Africa, Valeria heard about the Couchsurfing app. The idea of staying with strangers felt both exciting and a little scary, but she decided to give it a try. She sent out requests—mostly to women, and one to a man named Trent. Only he replied. Trent was a young professional in Cape Town, fresh from travels in Indonesia and the U.S., his curiosity for the world still burning. That summer, he'd been hosting a stream of guests, drawn to the connections more than the convenience. When Valeria’s request appeared—no reviews, no references—his instinct was to decline. But something made him pause. It’s just two days, he thought. What’s the worst that could happen? When Valeria stepped out of the car and Trent walked into the yard, their eyes met through the gate. In that moment, something clicked. She felt safe. Like she was meant to be there.Despite the language barrier—her English was still rough—there was a natural ease between them, as if they’d known each other for years. Trent was living with his work friends , and Valeria settled in like she’d always been part of the home. They spent a sun-drenched day at the beach, talking in fragments, laughing in full. On their second night, they stayed up late, sharing stories, drifting into something deeper.Trent knew then—this wasn’t just a visit. He loved her. A life with her would feel like a life-long summer. Valeria wasn’t so sure yet. But something had begun. Something real. Months later, Valeria returned to Cape Town after a long journey through Namibia. Trent saw it as his chance—the moment to win the girl and ride off into the sunset. But things didn’t go as he hoped.His intensity caught Val off guard. What happened to our friendship? she wondered. She had a point. In his eagerness, Trent had let emotion cloud his judgment, pushing too hard and too fast. The connection that once felt effortless suddenly felt strained.It was a hard lesson for him. If he truly cared—really wanted to be in her life—he’d have to step back, let go of expectations, and give her the space to enjoy both her travels and his company.So he did. And in that space, something beautiful happened—their friendship deepened. Nearly four months later, Val and Trent had come to know each other in a deeper, more sincere way. Their connection had grown, quietly and steadily. When Val joined Trent on a trip to visit his family in another city, something shifted.Trent had three younger siblings who adored him—full of joy each time he visited. With them, he was gentle, playful, and kind. Val saw a new side of him in those moments, and his siblings quickly grew fond of her too. They welcomed her with open arms, their affection natural and easy.Trent watched it unfold—Val laughing with his little brother, helping his sister with something small—and he couldn’t help but think, I wish she were part of my family.What he didn’t know was that Val was feeling the same. As their childlike spirits came out to play, something tender and true began to grow between them.A quiet love, rooted in friendship, was starting to bloom. While in Sodwana Bay, the feelings rose to their heights, during a full moon walk to the beach, Trent confessed to Val 'You are the most beautiful thing I have ever known' Her mutual feelings made the moon brighter and the tide gentler. Not long after, a Kiss sealed the deal. Until now, where they are asking their closest family and friends to come with them to the place it all started, and to write them in to the rest of this story.

HOW A SHORT VISIT TURNED INTO A LIFE LONG STAY

Durante un viaggio in Africa, Valeria venne a sapere dell’app Couchsurfing. L’idea di alloggiare a casa di sconosciuti era allo stesso tempo entusiasmante e un po’ spaventosa, ma decise di provarci. Inviò alcune richieste — per lo più a donne, e una a un uomo di nome Trent. Solo lui rispose. Trent era un giovane professionista a Città del Capo, appena tornato da viaggi in Indonesia e negli Stati Uniti, con la sua curiosità per il mondo ancora viva. Quell’estate aveva ospitato una serie continua di ospiti, attratto più dalle connessioni umane che dalla comodità. Quando arrivò la richiesta di Valeria — senza recensioni né referenze — il suo primo istinto fu di rifiutare. Ma qualcosa lo fece esitare. “Sono solo due giorni,” pensò. “Cosa potrebbe mai andare storto?” Quando Valeria scese dall’auto e Trent uscì nel cortile, i loro sguardi si incrociarono attraverso il cancello. In quell’istante, qualcosa scattò. Lei si sentì al sicuro. Come se fosse destinata a essere lì.Nonostante la barriera linguistica — il suo inglese era ancora incerto — tra loro c’era una naturalezza sorprendente, come se si conoscessero da anni. At our second and spiritual home, the Ekhaya Community Center in Sodwana Bay, the 18th of April will be a day not only of our matrimony but also—just as importantly—of our family union.We are (and hope you are too) praying for a warm and sunny day. Dress code: Summer casual and always comfortable.Tentative Schedule:12:00 PM – 1:30 PM: Guest arrivals, mingling, welcome drinks, and appetizers.2:00 PM: Wedding ceremony followed shortly afterward by our first family feast.The celebration will then continue until the last person standing!

Nella nostra seconda e spirituale casa, il Centro Comunitario Ekhaya a Sodwana Bay, il 18 aprile sarà il giorno non solo del nostro matrimonio, ma anche – e altrettanto importante – della nostra unione familiare.Stiamo pregando (e speriamo anche voi) per una giornata calda e soleggiata. Dress code: Casual estivo e sempre comodo.Programma provvisorio: 12:00 – 13:30: Arrivo degli ospiti, momenti di conoscenza, drink di benvenuto e antipasti. 14:00: Cerimonia nuziale, seguita poco dopo dal nostro primo banchetto familiare. La festa continuerà fino all’ultimo ballerino in piedi!

If you are arriving from overseas, you have two airport options: King Shaka International Airport (DUR) or Richards Bay Airport (RCB). Please confirm your arrival date and time so that we can arrange a shuttle to transport you to Sodwana Bay. The journey will take approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on which airport you land at. For those travelling by road, specific directions and a detailed roadmap to Ekhaya Sodwana Bay will be provided upon request. Below are accomodation options for the guests needing accomodation. For the nights of 17th - 19th April 2026.
