Our story began on October 21st 2021. It was a chilly Thursday night in Nashville, Tennessee when Vanessa decided to slip through the Historic Songwriter Thursday Night guitar pull, at American Legion Post 82. She had never been before and little did she know, Chris was a Songwriter Thursdays staple.

He spotted her the moment she arrived, walking slowly up to the circle and grabbing a chair. The very minute she began to sing, Chris fell madly in love. He followed her to a nearby watering hole after the songwriters had disbanded, on a tip from a friend. They talked and laughed all night, and danced to the jukebox in the corner, playing Fleetwood Mac’s, “Dreams.” After a simultaneous bathroom reprieve, Chris returned to the table to find out Vanessa had left, without saying goodbye.

The next day, Vanessa received a poetic message online, denoting the extreme pleasure Chris felt in meeting her and that he had high hopes their paths would cross again soon. Just two weeks later, Vanessa invited Chris to an impromptu Halloween party she was hosting at her house. That party is where sparks flew, hearts sang, and they shared their first kiss. Both of their lives set to change forever, without either of them knowing it yet.

After another week or so, Vanessa left for her home state of Texas. She had a fall tour planned that would take place of the course of the next twenty-six days. During that time they spoke on the phone at length, everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. They wrote each other letters and longed for their reunion in Nashville. Chris wrote poems everyday and would send them first thing in the morning, to greet her as she awoke.

Vanessa returned in November, just after Thanksgiving. By this time he had proposed twice, confessed his love three times, and even asked her to bear his children. She had stood tall against the playful proposals and lighthearted exaggerations of love, Chris was known to commit. However, when she arrived she had a confession of her own to reveal. The moment he retrieved her from the airport and they arrived back to the house, she decreed, “I love you Chris Emmert!”

And the rest ladies and gentlemen, is history.
