Q + A

Which airport is best to fly into?

The Reno-Tahoe International Airport is the closest airport to fly into. It is about a 45-60 minute drive to South Lake Tahoe depending on traffic. Rental car is recommended, and if you can go in on renting one with a few friends, even better! A second option is the Sacramento International Airport. This is about a 2 hour and 15 minute drive to South Lake Tahoe depending on traffic. Another option to fly into is San Franciso International Airport. This may offer more options for flight prices. However, is about a 4 hour drive to South Lake Tahoe depending on traffic.

Do I need a REAL ID?

Yes, starting May 7th, REAL ID is required by TSA to fly. Other acceptable forms of ID include DoD ID, DoD dependent ID, and passports.

What are your recommendations for lodging?

Please refer to the Travel tab of our website to see where we have hotel blocks reserved for our guests. Another fun option is going in on an AirBnB or VRBO if you have a group of friends going. These can book out far in advance, so please plan accordingly if you are interested in this option. There are a few casino options on the Nevada side of Stateline as well. These can be very budget friendly!

Your ceremony and reception are listed in two different states, is that correct?

Yes! Where we are located in South Lake Tahoe is right on the state line of California and Nevada. Travel distance between ceremony and reception is approximately 15 minutes.

What is the weather like in South Lake Tahoe?

During the summer, temperatures can get up the mid 80s during the day. Out West is much drier than the Midwest, so make sure you drink plenty of water. Elevation sickness is very real, but very avoidable if you do the right things! The sun is much harsher in the mountains with the increased elevation, so sunscreen is a must. Once the sun goes down, temperatures can drop to the 50s. Weather permitting, the dancing portion of the reception will be outside, so please plan accordingly. We recommend bringing along a light jacket or sweater, especially for the ladies!

Can I bring my kids?

As much as we love your little ones, the only children that will be present are those within the immediate family of the bride and groom. Please take this opportunity to use our wedding as a couples getaway!

Can I bring a plus one?

Unfortunately, due to budget and space limitations, we can't afford for all of our guests to bring a guest of their own. We ask that you do not bring a plus one, unless they are specifically named on the invitation. Thank you for understanding!

What day should I arrive?

Completely up to you! We hope that you take this chance to treat yourself to a vacation, but completely understand this is not an option for everyone. The wedding is on a Thursday, and we will be having "Welcome Drinks" for everyone invited on the Wednesday night before. We also have an itinerary of activities in the "Things to Do" tab that guests can also partake in as well (click on the link listed in the tab). This is what the bride and groom will be doing leading up to and after the wedding, and you are more than welcome to join. You are also welcome to do your own thing if preferred!

When should I RSVP by?

RSVP deadline was on June 28th. If you did not RSVP by that date, we have taken that as a no as our venue required our final counts by a certain time. We appreciate your understanding. If you have any questions, please don't.

Is there a dress code?

Please dress in formal attire. For ladies, this can be tea-length, knee-length, or midi-length dresses. Dressy separates is also an option. For men, please wear a suit. Fun and summer colors, and floral patterns are encouraged for all! Think garden party formal! :) Sunscreen and sunglasses recommended for cocktail hour. Please remember it will cool down a lot at night, so consider bringing a light jacket for night. Dancing will be outside!

What time should I arrive to the ceremony?

Please plan to arrive 20 minutes early, no later than 12:40pm, to ensure you are able to find your seat prior to the start of the ceremony. Unfortunately, there will be a lot of road construction during this time in South Lake Tahoe. Please plan on allowing for extra travel time to ensure you arrive on time.

The address listed for the reception takes me to a huge parking lot, now what?

Right when you enter the parking lot you want to make a left, travel to the other end of the lot, and then veer right towards a small building. There should be signs directing you as well. There will be cables coming out of the building and going up the hill. The building will have a sign with "The Tram" on it. This tram can hold up to 50 people at a time and will take you on a five minute scenic ride up the mountain to the reception venue. Elevation will be 8200 feet. Remember those tips about avoiding elevation sickness. :)

Is there transportation arranged for guests on wedding day?

Unfortunately no. However, cars are able to remain in the parking lot at our reception venue, Heavenly, overnight with 24/7 surveillance. We encourage guests to utilize Uber or Lyft at the end of the night and leave their cars until the morning! Cars are not authorized to be left at Our Lady of Tahoe Catholic Church.

How relevant is Smokey the Bear?

VERY. The dryness causes Lake Tahoe to be highly at risk for forest fires. Both our ceremony and reception venues have strict NO smoking rules. That includes everyone's favorite wedding cigars. Remember, only YOU can prevent forest fires!
