The Garba is a lively traditional Gujarati dance event held the night before the wedding to celebrate the union of the couple and their families. The Garba will begin with performances from the bride and groom and their families. Then, food will be served and the dance floor will open to all.
What are the events on Saturday?
Saturday will begin with a morning Hindu wedding ceremony. It involves rituals like the Saat Phere (seven vows taken around a sacred fire), Kanyadaan (giving away the bride), and the tying of the Mangalsutra (sacred necklace) by the groom. After the ceremony, a traditional Gujarati lunch will be served.
There will be a break for the afternoon, and then guests will reconvene at 4:30 for the Christian ceremony and evening reception.
What should I wear for the Garba?
For all of our events, we want our guests to feel comfortable and ready to celebrate. Clothing for the Garba should be bright, festive, and fit for dancing. If you would like to wear traditional Indian clothing, that is also encouraged. Women can wear lehengas or chaniya cholis paired with dupattas (scarves). Men can wear kurtas or sherwanis with churidar pants or dhotis.
