How do I get from the airport to the hotels/Hillsboro via public transit?
The light rail (also called the MAX) has a “red line” that leaves from the airport and will take you most of the way to the hotel. You need to transfer to the blue line to actually get to Hillsboro (orenco station stop). Unfortunately there is construction on the red line and there is a temporary bus shuttle for part of it that will impact travel times. The blue line leaves from many places downtown so you can save on Uber/Lift by traveling to a stop on the blue line and heading towards Hillsboro (Orenco Station stop). In perfect conditions, it takes a care about 35 minutes to get from the aiport to Hillsboro. Please contact us if you have questions about this.
How do I pay for public transit in Portland?
The easiest way is the Hop Fastpass app, but you can also pay with card at some stops. The cost of public transit is $2.50 for 2 hours and a maximum of $5 a day. You should always tap your phone to pay as you will not be charged beyond the $5 a day max. Public transit includes the lightrail (called the MAX), the streetcars in the city and the bus system. There are also rental e-bikes (through Lyft app) all around the city.
How do you recommend getting around Portland?
Portland is a very walkable city. The public transit is robust. There are multiple pedestrian friendly bridges as well.
