Our Story

Hi everyone! Vi here. I would like to say welcome to our wedding site. Both Lyn and I are very excited to have all of you as part of this journey with us. Since ChatGPT did such as terrible job writing our story… here I go!

Lyn and I met like how many couples do in this generation, through online dating right at the beginning of the pandemic in March of 2020. We did the back and forth by text initially because meeting strangers was a bit sketchy during that time, but at some point we decided that it is worth risking our lives to meet and see where things go. Planning a date with nothing open for dining-in had definitely made it more interesting.

We decided to meet up at Taco Mesa after work on a Tuesday because who doesn’t love “Taco Tuesdays”. We got food to-go and sat in my truck to eat and chatted for several hours. That’s where we learned a bunch more about each other and a few of the things that we have in common: enjoying a nice bourbon, love Del Taco and have families in Cincinnati. Till now I’m still convinced being from Cincy got me matched with her in the first place.

After our long chat and getting to know each other more, we ended the night with just a quick trip to Target so that I can find toilet paper when there was a shortage of it. Tough times.

The pandemic turned out to be quite a test for many relationships because it took away the beginning “honeymoon” phase where you’re dressing up, going out to fancy dinners and going out on adventures. All we have is each other’s company at each other’s places. In a way, that was a blessing in disguise because that really is what being together is going to be like. For Lyn and I, we ended up planning meals at home together, finding silly shows to watch, and started to make a life where it would just us two. I always remember thinking, “This is nice”.

Fast forward about a year, I got a new job which required me to move up to the Bay Area. As big of a decision as that was, I asked Lyn if she wanted to come with me and pretty much without any hesitation, her answer was “Yes”. We were sad to leave to Orange County but were really excited to start living together as part of this next chapter in our relationship.

2 years later, we had started to build a pretty solid foundation and have done pretty much everything that a couple would do at this point but we really wanted to do one big international trip together especially since the pandemic was rounding the corner. We decided to do a multi-country trip to Southeast Asia and also to visit Lyn’s hometown in Penang, Malaysia. I decided that maybe this is the trip to finally ask the question. I had no idea how I was going to propose but I knew that it was happening during this trip somewhere so I snuck out one day for "Golf" and got the ring.

Lyn got me a small drone for one of my birthdays which we have only used a couple of times so we decided to pack it along just in case the opportunity comes up. During our Malaysia trip, we went to the famous Clan Jetties of Penang. Lim Jetty (also Lyn’s last name) was one of the more quiet ones and we thought how this would be a cool place for a drone shot and that we should come back for that. I think at that point I figured out my spot. I had been carrying around the ring for about 10 days up until this point without her knowing.

On our final day in Penang, we got up early and went back to Lim Jetty to catch the sunrise. We got the drone, I got the ring, we arrive to the place right before dawn. Everything was perfect. (Edit: Lyn here, I thought it was weird how nervous he was about flying drones) I started to set up the drone facing us and Lyn commented, “Why are you facing the drone backwards… turn it around” so I reluctantly did. Then it was time to fly…. and when I started the drone propellers… dead. No batteries.

At the same time, hide tide started rushing in and Lyn decided that it was probably time to leave. At this point I was getting nervous that the moment is passing and I still have a ring in my pocket so I told her to wait a moment to take a few more pictures which she agreed to and proceeded to take a 360 degree videos. That was my queue…

I got down on one knee when she was half way through her video and got the ring out. And before I got out my first word, she said: “Yes”.

We stayed a bit longer and had a nice little moment there with just the two of us that morning.

Now here we are, just months from the day and we can’t wait to share it with all of you.
