At the end of a night out with their respective friends, Cedric and Vicky, unbeknownst to each other, found themselves at the same diner. She was mid-conversation when she saw Cedric. He passed their table casually, unaware of the way her eyes followed him. Vicky leaned over to her friend and whispered, “Who’s that? He’s cute.” Unfortunately—or fortunately, depending on how one looked at it—her friend was not one for subtlety. “Hey! You!” the friend called out. Vicky’s eyes widened in horror as the guy actually stopped, eyebrows raised in amusement. “My friend thinks you’re cute,” the friend declared, as if making an official announcement. Vicky buried her face in her hands, she was red as a tomato. She then lifted her head and saw him grinning. And then, instead of walking away, he stood there to talk to us. “So,” he said, looking straight at her with a smile. “You think I’m cute? Don’t be shy.” Vicky groaned, still half-laughing at her own embarrassment, she didn’t know what to respond. Her friend invited him to sit and he made his way over, pulled out a chair, and sat down. And just like that, the night took a turn neither of them expected. They talked. And talked. And somewhere between shared stories and teasing smiles, something shifted. The noise of the restaurant faded. The world outside ceased to exist. An hour passed by and they were still talking. Her friend suddenly said “I hope you guys exchanged numbers!” “I was about to ask for her instagram, can I have it?” He asked as he was about to leave. Vicky smiled. “Yes, of course. I hope you’ll send me a message.” And they did talk. The rest, as they say, is history.
