Texas State Capital Building

SoCo District, the Capital Building, and UT Campus are all relatively close to one another and would make for an adventurous day. End the evening by hopefully watching bats fly out from underneath South Congress Bridge at sunset.

Austin's Bats

Bat season is from late March (yay!) to late September. An estimated 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from under the Congress Avenue Bridge around sunset to hunt for food. You can line up on the sides of the bridge and watch the bats pour out over the Lady Bird Lake. Since March is still early in the bat season, you may not get a peak emergence experience.


Pennybacker Bridge Overlook (360 bridge)
